Robert Flowers Village is connected to the nursing home. The residents can get their food from the nursing home if they want to, but other than that, they're pretty much independent. It's 12 to 14 individual apartments connected by a hallway, and each has individual entrances. You don't have to go to the lobby to get to your room. It's not a controlled environment, but there's not going to be a lot of people running around. I put my name on the waiting list to move in there. I liked that it was an individual apartment, it had washer and dryer on the same floor, had separate entrance, each one has a backdoor, and you can have a little patio. Most of the people were a little younger, and they're pretty active on their own. They can go out to eat, cook for themselves, order in, or order food from the nursing home, which wasn't spectacular but not terrible.

My husband was in Burnsides Community Health Center, and it's an above average nursing home. It didn't smell, and it was never uncomfortable being a visitor. I went in and ate lunch and dinner with my husband when he was there, and it was OK. Most of the rooms were semi-private, but they are getting more private rooms, especially for short-term rehabilitation. I know one lady who broke her hip who decided she was going to sell her house and move in there and just live there the rest of her life. They had activities, games, exercise programs, and normal activities that older folks can take part in and can enjoy. They had a big TV with movies going most of the time. However, the staff's worth ethics was very poor. They're understaffed and had a high turnover, but for the price in our town, they're at par with the others.

My grandfather and grandmother were both residents of Burnsides Community Health Center. My grandfather was there for several years and received the best care my family could have ever asked for. My grandmother was there a few years ago also. The staff of Burnsides is very kind and friendly. They are also very knowledgable and go above and beyond to care for the residents there. They also make friends and family feel welcome whenever they go to visit a resident. The facilities are very well maintained and very comfortable. My grandparents both had to share a room with another resident however and although I realize that not all rooms can be private, it would have been nice to have someway to have a bit more privacy whenever we were there to visit with them. I'm sure their roommates would have appreciated a bit of privacy also. Burnsides also has an indoor visiting area, but it would be nice if there was an area set up outside too. Maybe a fenced in area to keep resident safe while outdoors. The sidewalks and front porch area are nice to get out and get some fresh air, but a bigger parklike area would be wonderful. I will be forever grateful to the staff of Burnsides for making the time that my grandparents spent there comfortable.
