"My father was at Gaither Suites at West Park for assisted living. It was good. They had lots of activities they engaged in, but it was assisted living, which I know is vastly different than memory care. The staff was outstanding. They were very involved with the residents. They were on top of everything. My dad kept trying to leave, and it's not a locked-down facility. He couldn't stay there. They were just really good about bringing the residents out, and getting them involved in bingo and singing. They brought people in to play music. They were very compassionate and very loving. Overall, it was an excellent place. I don't have any complaints about that other than we had to leave because my dad couldn't stay there."

"I didn't have an appointment for Rivercrest Place, but I went by there and looked at it, and I really liked it. One of the nurses there took me around and gave me an idea of what it's like. It was clean. It smelled nice. The rooms have their own patios where the family member could smoke on their patio. The rooms were clean. The staff was friendly. The residents I've got to talk to said they loved it there. The staff was very friendly and very informative. She was just really nice. With regard to amenities, they had a gym, but I don't remember about a library there."

"I fell in love with Brookstone Estates of Harrisburg. They're friendly and make you feel at home. There's always someone to say hello and smile. The facility was clean and very homey. If I could have afforded it, I would choose this one. Everyone that I talked to said that the food was delicious. The girl who showed me around was very sweet. She explained everything as we talked to her. She let me know that I would be very welcomed. She showed me one of the rooms, and they were divine."

"My aunt and uncle lived in Autumn Ridge Supported Living for several years. It was a very nice place that was brand new when they moved in. They served all their meals right there. They had some residents on Medicaid. They did a few day trips, shopping trips, game nights in their dining hall, groups visiting from various churches in the area, singing and preaching. The carpeting in the halls was nice. It was nicely painted, very upbeat, and very bright. The decor was bright. Most of the units were one-bedrooms, but they also had a two-bedroom unit. They had the schedule of events and meals for the month posted on the bulletin board. My aunt and uncle stayed in their apartment to eat and they kind of discouraged that. They wanted the people out socializing in the dining room, which impressed me. The staff was very caring. The food was kind of bland, which it had to be for their diet. Activities were age appropriate, and they had pretty good participation."

"I am staying at Magnolia Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation. I like the staff and the people. They make it all worthwhile. They're very good people. The staff members are very professional, concerned, kind, and sincere. The food is perfect. It is quite tasty. There's a good variety, and it's very well-prepared. You have a hot meal three times a day. They have activities seven days a week, two times a day. They have wheelchair volleyball, dominoes, bingo, a wide variety of arts and crafts, and things like that. It's got a housekeeping staff seven days a week. My room itself gets cleaned at least once every day, so I've got no complaints whatsoever about housekeeping. It is quite sterile and germ-free."

"The Anna Veterans' Administration Home in Anna, Illinois, is an excellently run facility. When one enters the doors, one is greeted with a pleasant atmosphere, free from the smell of bodily excrement or body odor. Residents are well groomed, clean, appropriately clad, and have good social interaction with staff and other residents, as their condition permits. Residents unable to propell wheelchairs or ambulate are brought by staff to the nurse's station or one of two beautifully equipped activity rooms. There is a pleasant interaction between residents and staff. "

"Union County Nursing Home is a good facility, where there is excellent social interaction among residents and staff. The facility is clean and attempts to maintain a homelike atmosphere for residents. Various departments at the nursing home work well together to provide quality care for its clients. In addition to maintenance of good grooming and appropriately attiring residents, staff work together with the residents' families and those having Power of Attorney. There is an excellent interface between the nursing staff and physicians ordering care for the residents. If I had a family member in need of nursing home care, Union County Nursing Home is one facility I would personally consider for nursing home placement of my loved one.Physical Therapy is available at Union County, to improve performance of activities of daily living of it's residents. Activities are provided to engage the residents socially within the limits of their levels of comprehension. Staff is caring and cordial with residents, families, hospitals, and physicians. The nursing staff rreports changes in a resident's condition promptly. "

"I visited Southgate Senior Living on 10th Street in Metropolis. It's independent living, so they don't take care of you. They give you a place to live, fix your meals, do your laundry, and clean your room and apartment. You have to be able to take care of your own needs, medical bills, your own medicine, and all that stuff. It's a nice place. I looked at a 2-bedroom apartment and a studio apartment. The lady I talked to several months ago was nice. The one I talked to just a couple of weeks ago, I didn't think was very friendly. She began to tell me what I could not use in that house. She said my wheelchair wouldn't fit through the doors, but I know it would because I'd been in there before with it. She tried to talk me into not moving in there, so I don't know what was going on with her. They had a nice dining area, and the rooms were nice. I didn't have lunch with them, but the residents were sitting down to eat. We've seen everything that they were doing, and it all seemed nice. They even invited us to stay for lunch. The staff in the dining room all seemed like they were sufficient and seemed friendly, and to me, that's the main part. All of them were friendly, except this one lady, but I guess she was just having a bad day or something. Everybody else seemed to be nice and doing what they were supposed to be doing. It's a nice facility, but I wouldn't want to live there, because it's just not my cup of tea. I'm more of a country girl, and to me, that place doesn't have the country feel to it. The cleanliness was wonderful, though. I couldn't see anything wrong, and when I go somewhere like that, I look for dirt."

"I toured Misty Meadows Senior Living Center on Devers Road in Metropolis. It's more country-fied, and to me, that tops the other ones. It's nice and has a country atmosphere. When you go in, you think you're going into an old country home. It's clean and has the friendliest people you've ever wanted to meet in your life. They'll take you from one apartment to the other and show you what they've got. The people were just finishing up their meals when we got there, and they were still sitting around talking and visiting. Some of the employees were sitting there talking and visiting with them, too. People work on puzzles and things like that. It has a very friendly atmosphere and a down-home feeling. I would pick this community if I were going to go to one. It was wonderful. I walked in the door, and some of the staff were back in the dining area, which I saw when I went in. They began to wave at me and say hi. The apartment was nice and had little sliding doors with a little patio. The two-bedroom apartment had closets. It's big enough that you could put a little half-size bed in and have another bedroom. You could get into the bathroom with your wheelchair, and I'm a big person, so my wheelchair is also big. I could get that wheelchair through the doors, into the bathroom, in and out of the apartment, and down the halls. The only problem is just the cost."

"Southgate nursing home in Metropolis Illinois is one of the friendliest and cleanest facilities I have ever visited. My grandmother is currently a resident there and I go there to visit her every now and then, and when I do it is always a pleasure to see the smiling faces on the nurses there as they greet me when I walk through the doors. Most of the girls even know me by name there, which is unheard of judging by the other places she has been admitted to. I know they probably aren't supposed to do this, but they always ask me if I would like something to drink to help me cool off as I usually go there right after work and I happily always say yes. I absolutely love going there to see my grandmother, and even some of the staff members, as some of them are my friends. Keep up the good work girls!! "

"I would go with my girlfriend to visit her grandmother at her housing in the assisted living facility. The staff was relatively nice, some more then others. Some of the staff would joke and talk with you, others would act as if you didnt exist. My girlfriends grandmother never had any complaints about the place or any of the staff. The facility seemed to be treating her grandma really good. The only slight complaint she had is that she got bored a lot. We visited her grandmother several times and each time it seemed like a different staff team was working. The place was kept up and clean and didnt smell strange in any way. Her grandmothers room wasnt the biggest, but it had the basics and was easy to get around in. I wouldnt mind having to go back her place anytime. All together, the place was pretty comfortable, nice and most of all, my girlfriends grandmother was happy there. "

"My parents are in Sunshine Gardens Assisted Living and Memory Care. They were in another facility, but they were raising their rate. They decided that they needed to find a place within their income. We took them to Sunshine Gardens and they liked it. I like the staff. They treat my mom and dad well. Right now, they're in a temporary apartment and it's nice. They've got a refrigerator and a microwave. The atmosphere is nice and homey. They play bingo and they have a band come in every Friday night and my parents like that. They're close to a Huddle House, a Cracker Barrel, and The Hideout, which is a steak restaurant. There are gas stations nearby. Just right down around the corner are strip malls and stuff like that. The dining area is huge. They share that with the activities and they have a little seating area where they can go and sit and watch people come and go. They've got a big fountain or something in the middle. They have nice padded benches they can sit around and there's a swing in there. I think they have enough to eat. My dad got two helpings of fried shrimp. He was happy about that. Mostly in the summertime, they do movies, they put up a screen and they go outside, like in the courtyard, and they have cookouts and watch movies out there. They keep my parents busy. It wears them out."

"My mom has moved into The Voyage Senior Living Marion North, and she's absolutely thrilled. The staff are awesome and very helpful. The first few days she was there, they came and checked on her every two hours. They're still reminding her every day of what time meals are because she's got dementia and she forgets. They're really great. I've been really pleased with their service. They're really responsive when I call and talk to them. My mom doesn't need memory care yet. She's in a one-bedroom apartment. It has a kitchenette, a nice bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a big window in her living room, and a big window in her bedroom. All their rooms are in a circular fashion, so there's a big courtyard in the middle, so her room looks into the courtyard. The common dining area is great. It's right next to the front entry. Not only do they have a big dining area, but they have a seating area right there with a TV, a fireplace, and the kitchen is right next to it. The atmosphere is very welcoming. Everybody seems to really like each other. The facility is not huge, there's only about 27 residents, but they all seem to enjoy getting together. They have a lot of activities for them. They play bingo and they have crafts once a week. My mom goes up and eats meals with them, but she has not yet participated in activities. She hasn't been there quite long enough. She likes the food. They have a daily special. If they are not happy with the daily special, they have other options. It's kind of served restaurant style. They fill out their menu by the day so they know what they are, and they can pick what they want to eat that day. Actually, they pick for the whole week what they want to eat. They'll take my mom to the store. They have somebody who comes in once a week and does a church service. They have an activities director. They have somebody come in periodically, like once a month or twice a month, and just put on like a mini concert where somebody comes in and sings for the residents. They just do quite a lot for the residents."

"I was very impressed with Fifth Season at Radcliffe Street. The residents appeared very, very happy and very well taken care of. The staff showed me the different types of rooms that were available, so I could compare, and she was very friendly. She showed me the exercise area and the dining area. The whole place was clean, and everything smelled great. It was spacious and easy to navigate through. If I had a walker or if I was using a wheelchair, everything was easily accessible. It just really looked homey, where you could relax."

"My mother-in-law is currently in Integrity Healthcare of Marion. The staff members are very supportive, very kind, and very responsive to any questions. They have puzzles, they have groups where they get together and talk, and they can also go outside and exercise if the weather is nice. Her room is very clean. We're paying with Medicare. The communication with the staff is very good."
