This means the cost in Bucks County is about 11% and 21% more affordable than the statewide and national averages, respectively.
Assisted living costs in other cities in Pennsylvania vary significantly. In the western part of the state in Pittsburgh, seniors can expect to pay $3,500 per month, the same as their peers in Bucks County. Rates in Scranton, in northern Pennsylvania, average $2,450 per month or $1,100 less. In East Stroudsburg, which is about 55 miles to the north, the cost is $4,875 or $1,325 more. Costs increase even more toward the center of the state; those in State College pay a monthly rate of $5,340, which is $1,790 more. To the south, costs in Chambersburg and Harrisburg average $5,215 and $4,857 per month, or $1,665 and $1,307 higher, respectively. Philadelphia, in southeastern Pennsylvania, has the highest costs in the state. Seniors in this city can expect to pay $5,550 per month, which is $2,000 more than the rate in Bucks County.
