"The New Homestead has independent living, assisted living, and a nursing home. The independent living is in a separate building. They've got four different-sized units. The apartments in the independent living part were above average. The one that the staff got to show me was being renovated. It looked pretty good. Some of them have in-room washers and dryers, others don't. She let me take my dog on the tour. The facility is showing a little bit of wear. It's a little older than the other ones I've been to, but it looked doable for me. The price is very competitive. It's all on one floor. They don't have a second story. They have a nice big function room. They offer one noon meal a day in independent living. They have on-site laundry for the rooms that don't have a washer and dryer in them. They have a one-time pet charge, but they don't charge a monthly fee for pets. The price was really competitive. I'm keeping them at the top of my list right now. Everything else is way too expensive for me. It was a very thorough tour."

"The Lakeside Village was a little larger than most of the others I toured. It's four stories, and it's overlooking a lake. They showed me about three rooms. All of them are one-bedroom or studio. I had a meal there. For independent living, they offer one meal a day. They have scheduled transportation and bi-weekly housekeeping and laundry. They allow pets. It's a $1,000 pet deposit and $50 a month per pet. It's kind of expensive, and their monthly room rent is awfully high, too. They have more services. They've got the independent living and the assisted living mixed. If you went to memory care, you'd have to move to a different room, but to go from independent living to assisted living, you stay in the same room,;they just upgrade your services."

"My husband moved into Manning Senior Living and we're very happy. I felt good when I walked into the door of Manning, I had a good feeling about it. I didn't have a good feeling at the other places I went to. The director is amazing. It's smaller, maybe 30 residents, so I feel like there will be lots of care, and the people that work there are invested in the community, so they're also invested in the clients. I really like it. He's going to be moving to a one-bedroom, but right now he's in a suite or a studio. We're moving him soon, we just need to put the furniture together. They have bingo, crafts, movie days, ice cream socials, cards, and puzzles. They also have a library, an exercise place, and somewhere they can take a walk."
