1. What This Privacy Policy Covers
This Privacy Policy covers how we treat Personal Data that we gather when you access or use our Services. “Personal Data” means any information or data that directly or indirectly identifies, describes, relates to, or is reasonably capable of being associated with, or can reasonably link, to a particular individual, consumer or household and has the meanings ascribed under applicable data privacy laws. This Privacy Policy applies only to information we collect through our own Services and not to the practices of companies that we do not own or control, or people that we do not manage. This Privacy Policy does not apply to any third-party sites that may link to or be accessible from our Website or applications. In some situations, we may rely on exemptions or other permitted conduct under applicable laws, including collecting, using, disclosing or storing Personal Data. Information about your business is not typically Personal Data. Anonymized information is also not considered Personal Data for the purposes of this notice. We may anonymize any Personal Data in our custody, in which case it will cease to be Personal Data.
2. Consent and Opt-Out Rights
2.1 Communications with Third Party Senior Care Providers
When you contact us requesting our Services (an “Inquiry”), we may share your Personal Data with senior care providers to obtain or request a quote, services or information from one or more third parties (a “Referral”). We obtain your written or verbal consent to share your Personal Data when you communicate with a Caring.com agent. If you would not like to be contacted by senior care providers and our partners, do not enter your information and consent via any of the online Inquiry forms on the Website, or via telephone call, text message, chat, or email with one of our representatives.
2.2 Telephone Communications
Unless you opt out through the methods set forth in Section 2.3 below, Caring may share your Personal Data in connection with your Inquiry (e.g. after you talk to a family advisor or by an automated matching algorithm). IF YOU PROVIDE YOUR CONSENT AND SUBMIT AN INQUIRY, SENIOR CARE PROVIDERS MAY CONTACT YOU DIRECTLY VIA MAIL, TELEPHONE, TEXT MESSAGE, FAX, EMAIL AND OTHER MEANS OF COMMUNICATION. IN ORDER TO ASSIST YOU IN FINDING SENIOR CARE, YOU MAY RECEIVE CALLS FROM OUR FAMILY ADVISORS OR SENIOR CARE PROVIDERS AS A CONSEQUENCE OF SUBMITTING AN INQUIRY THROUGH OUR SERVICES. BY CONSENTING AND SUBMITTING AN INQUIRY, YOU CONSENT AND AGREE THAT WE AND OUR PARTNERS AND SENIOR CARE PROVIDERS MAY CONTACT YOU, VIA TELEPHONE CALL, TEXT, OR FAX WITH AN AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE DIALING SYSTEM OR PRERECORDED OR ARTIFICIAL VOICE FOR TELEMARKETING PURPOSES AT THE TELEPHONE NUMBER YOU PROVIDED, EVEN IF YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER IS ON A “DO NOT CALL” LIST. MESSAGE AND DATA RATES MAY APPLY. TELEPHONE COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN YOU AND US MAY BE RECORDED OR MONITORED FOR QUALITY CONTROL PURPOSES. BY PROVIDING INFORMATION TO US, YOU EXPRESSLY CONSENT TO THE RECORDING OF THESE TELEPHONE COMMUNICATIONS.
THIS CONSENT IS NOT REQUIRED TO OBTAIN OUR OR OUR SENIOR CARE PARTNERS’ SERVICES OR PRODUCTS AND YOU MAY OPT OUT AT ANY TIME BY TEXTING “STOP” FOR SMS OR TELLING THE REPRESENTATIVE ON THE PHONE THAT YOU NO LONGER WANT TO BE CONTACTED BY CARING OF TELEPHONE COMMUNICATIONS:
If you are matched with senior care providers, you expressly consent to the senior care providers conducting any research necessary to provide you with information related to your Inquiry. Senior care providers may need to share your Personal Data to conduct such research. If you do not want senior care providers to conduct necessary research to provide you with information for your Inquiry, then you should not submit an Inquiry.
Please note that if you consent and submit an Inquiry through our Services and we share your Personal Data as described above in connection with your Inquiry, you will not have the opportunity to opt out of the disclosure of your Personal Data in connection with that particular request. If you wish to opt out of further communications or data sharing with Caring, please contact us via the methods indicated above. To opt out of communications or data processing by third-party entities to whom your Personal Data has been shared, you will need to contact those third parties directly.
2.3 Your Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing of Personal Data:
We may also share your Personal Data with our advertising or marketing partners to tailor and personalize Caring’s offers, ads, and content to suit your preferences while you're browsing other sites. This process may constitute selling or sharing of Personal Data under certain state privacy laws. It’s important to note that opting out only prevents targeted ads using data collected on the browser you opt out on, it does not mean you will no longer see any advertising. You may continue to see generic or contextual ads (that are not tailored to you). Also, if you use multiple browsers or devices, you should opt out on each one, and if you clear your cookies, you may need to opt out again as that may remove the opt-out cookie. You can exercise this opt-out right as follows:
- Opt-Out Mechanism: You can manually opt out by visiting our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page.

- Directly From You: We collect information you provide when you create an account or interact with our Services, such as when you register for an account, fill out forms or surveys, communicate with us via email, phone, SMS, or chat assistant, participate in promotions or events, or submit reviews or other content. You are responsible for any content you post or share through our Services, including any personal information (“User-Generated Content”). If you wish to request removal of your content from our community forum, please contact us at community@caring.com. While we will make reasonable efforts to honor such requests, complete removal may not always be possible (for example, if copies remain in cached or archived pages or have been copied by other users). If we are unable to remove your content, we will inform you and explain why. Use of all content within our Services is subject to our Terms of Use.
- Automatically Through Our Services: When you use or access our Services, we automatically collect certain information as you use our Services, including device and browser information, IP address and location data, browsing behavior and usage patterns, and data collected through cookies and similar tracking technologies. These third parties may provide us with information to enhance our Services, personalize your experience, or for other operational purposes.
- From Public Sources: We may collect Personal Data from public databases or government records about individual care seekers. Additionally, if you are using our Services on behalf of a business (such as a senior care provider), we might collect business contact information from public sources or directories.
5. Our Commercial or Business Purposes for Collecting Personal Data
We collect and use Personal Data for a variety of commercial and business purposes, in accordance with the terms of applicable privacy laws. The purposes for which we collect and use information include:
- Providing and Improving Our Services: We may use your information to operate, maintain, and enhance our Website and services. This includes connecting you with senior care providers, responding to your inquiries, offering customer support, personalizing your experience (such as tailoring search results and recommendations), and analyzing usage to improve our services.
- Communicating With You: We may contact you to respond to your questions, provide customer support, send service-related messages (like confirmations and updates), and deliver informational alerts or reminders about senior care services. These communications may occur via email, phone, SMS, or chat. You can opt out of non-essential messages at any time by following the provided instructions (e.g., texting "STOP" for SMS or unsubscribing from emails).
- Marketing and Advertising: We use your information to send you direct marketing communications about our products, services or promotions from Caring that may be of interest to you or our related services. This may be via email, post, SMS, telephone or targeted online advertisements. Our processing of your Personal Data for marketing purposes is based on our legitimate interest, on your consent, or on other legal basis permitted by applicable laws. You can opt out of marketing emails by contacting us via email, using the unsubscribe link in those emails, or implementing a third-party automated unsubscriber in your email account, like Gmail’s built-in “Auto Unsubscribe” feature). You can opt out of text messages by following the provided instructions (such as texting “STOP”). See Section 2 (Consent and Opt-Out Rights) above for more information.
- Security and Fraud Prevention: We may use your information to protect the integrity of our services, detect and prevent fraudulent activities, and ensure the safety of our users. If you post content on our platform (such as a review or comment), and we receive a claim that it infringes someone’s rights or violates our policies, we may review and use your data to address the issue.
- Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws (including any necessary obligations for archiving Personal Data), regulations, legal processes, or governmental requests, and to enforce our terms and policies.
We will not use your Personal Data for materially different purposes without updating this Privacy Policy or otherwise notifying you as required by law.
6. How We Share Your Personal Data
6.1 We disclose your Personal Data to the categories of third parties described below for business or commercial purposes. In some cases—depending on the laws that apply to you—certain of these disclosures may be considered a “sale” of your Personal Data or the “sharing” of your Personal Data for cross-context behavioral advertising. Please see Section 2 (Consent and Opt-Out Rights) above for more information on your choices. We do not disclose Personal Data to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes without your consent.
6.2 The categories of third parties with whom we share Personal Data include:
- Service Providers, which includes third-party companies and contractors that assist us in operating our Services, such as customer support, data processing, marketing, IT services, email delivery, hosting, and other operational support. These providers are contractually obligated to use Personal Data solely to perform services on our behalf.
- Senior Care Providers, which include facilities and agencies offering senior living and care services, such as assisted living communities, memory care facilities, nursing homes, and in-home care providers. We may share your information with these providers when you request referrals or information, enabling the providers to respond directly to inquiries.
- Business Partners, which includes partners and affiliates that offer services complementary to our offerings, including companies providing financial guidance for senior care, moving services, medical alert products, and other related services. Information is shared with these partners to provide users with a broader range of services that may be relevant to their needs.
- Advertising Partners, which include third-party advertising networks and platforms that display ads on our Website or manage our advertising on other sites. These partners may use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about users' interactions with the Website to provide targeted advertising based on browsing activities and interests. See Section 7 (Tracking Tools). On occasion, we might share your contact information with trusted partners who help us identify potential customers (for example, if we participate in a cooperative marketing program or if we refer users to a partner’s service and vice versa). We will do this in compliance with applicable law and with appropriate notices or consents.
- Analytics Partners, which include companies that analyze website usage data to help us understand user behavior and improve our services. These providers collect information such as pages visited, time spent on the site, and user interactions to generate insights into website performance and user engagement.
- Social Media Platforms, which include platforms like Meta (including Facebook and Instagram), X (formerly Twitter), Pinterest, and LinkedIn, especially when users engage with our social media features or widgets. Information may be shared with these platforms to facilitate social sharing, enable account linking, or for advertising purposes.
- Parties You Authorize, Access or Authenticate, including any person who, in our reasonable judgment, is authorized to receive your Personal Data as your agent, including as a result of your business dealings with that person (for example, your attorney).
- Legal and Regulatory Authorities, which include any governmental authority to which we disclose your information to comply with legal obligations, enforce our policies, respond to legal requests, or protect our rights and the rights of others. As a referral agent, and in states where applicable (including California, Oregon, and Washington), Caring.com is a mandated reporter of suspected and known elder abuse. As such, Caring.com may release your name, phone number, address, and other information you’ve shared with us to the state authorities in cases of suspected or known elder abuse.
6.3 Business Transfers: If we undergo a business transaction such as a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or asset sale, your Personal Data may be transferred to a third party as part of that transaction. In such cases, the acquiring company or merging partner will gain access to the data we maintain (including Personal Data) and will assume the rights and obligations regarding your Personal Data as described in this Privacy Policy. We will provide notice to you (for example, via email or a prominent notice on our Website) if your Personal Data becomes subject to a different privacy policy as a result of such a transaction.
6.4 Data That Is Not Personal Data: We may aggregate, de-identify, or anonymize Personal Data so that it is no longer associated with an identifiable individual and it is no longer Personal Data. For example, we may compile statistical information about all the users of our Services (such as the total number of inquiries in a month, or percentage of users interested in home care vs. assisted living) in a form that does not identify any user personally. We use such aggregated or anonymized data for our lawful business purposes, such as analyzing usage trends, developing new services, and sharing insights about the senior care market with partners or the public. Importantly, when we share aggregated or de-identified information, we ensure that it cannot reasonably be used to re-identify any particular person.
7. Tracking Tools
7.1 Our Services use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies (collectively, "Cookies") to enhance your experience, analyze usage, and deliver personalized content and ads. Cookies are small text files placed on your device to recognize your browser and remember certain information. Web beacons are tiny transparent images embedded in websites or emails that, in conjunction with cookies, help track activities like page views or email opens. We may also utilize other technologies such as local storage and scripts, and to collect and store information about your interactions with our Services. These technologies help us understand user behavior, improve functionality, and tailor content to your preferences.
7.2 How We Use Cookies: When you visit or use our Services, our servers (and authorized third parties) may set Cookies on your browser. These Cookies serve several functions: they help us understand how you navigate our site, what content is popular, and how our marketing campaigns are performing. Cookies can also make your next visit easier, for example, by remembering your preferences or login information (if our site has accounts), so you don’t have to re-enter them each time. In addition, Cookies enable us to serve you targeted ads as discussed below.
7.3 Types of Cookies We Use: We use the following categories of Cookies on our Services:
- Necessary Cookies: These Cookies are necessary for our site to function properly and to provide you with services you have requested. You can disable these Cookies via your browser settings, but note that some parts of our Services may not work correctly without them.
- Functional Cookies. These Cookies allow us to provide you with a better experience when you use the Services and the Website through customized settings. These Cookies do not collect identifying information about you, and they do not monitor or remember any of your interaction with the Website.
- Performance and Analytics Cookies: These Cookies collect information about how visitors use our Services, so that we can better understand traffic patterns and usage metrics. For instance, these Cookies might track which pages are visited most often, how long users spend on certain pages, how users came to our Website (e.g., via a search engine or an ad), and if any error messages were encountered. We use this information to improve our Website’s performance and to identify areas for enhancement. One example is Google Analytics, which uses its own cookies to collect data about user interactions. The information generated by Google Analytics cookies about your use of our site is transmitted to Google. Google uses this information to compile reports for us on Website activity. Google Analytics may also set cookies to help with ad personalization for Google’s own advertising network. To learn more about Google Analytics and how it uses data, you can visit the Google Analytics Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. If you wish, you can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by using the opt-out mechanisms discussed above. Additionally, you can opt out of third-party performance and analytics Cookies from the following services by visiting the links below:
- Fullstory: https://www.fullstory.com/optout/
- HubSpot: https://www.hubspot.com/hubspot-privacy-preferences
- Microsoft / Bing: https://account.microsoft.com/privacy/ad-settings/signedout
- Advertising (Targeting) Cookies: These Cookies are used to deliver advertisements that are more relevant to you and your interests, both on our Services and on other websites. They record information such as your visit to our site, the pages you have viewed, the links or ads you have clicked, and your IP address or device ID. We and our advertising partners use this information to try to infer what you are interested in and to display targeted ads that match those inferred interests. For example, if you visited pages on our site about memory care facilities, our partners might later show you ads for memory care or related services on other websites. Advertising Cookies also help us measure the effectiveness of our ad campaigns. These cookies may be set through our site by third-party advertising networks with our permission. Those companies may also use these tracking technologies to build a profile of your online behavior across multiple websites and over time, in order to serve you more relevant ads based on your preferences and interests. If you disable these cookies, you will still see advertisements, but they may be less relevant to you. Additionally, you may have the right to opt-out of the sale or sharing of your Personal Data and targeted ads, please see our Section 2 (Consent and Opt-Out Rights) for more information.
7.4 Your Choices for Cookies: Most web browsers automatically accept cookies by default, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies or selectively accept certain cookies. Each browser is a little different, so check your browser’s help or settings menu for instructions on how to manage cookies. You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies. If you choose to decline cookies, you can still use our Services, but some functionality (especially features that rely on cookies) may be limited or not work at all. For instance, disabling cookies might require you to re-enter information repeatedly, or it might prevent certain personalization features from remembering your preferences. To learn more about cookies and how to manage or delete them, you can visit AllAboutCookies.org, which provides general information on managing cookies for many popular browsers.
8. Interactions with Third Parties
When you engage with third parties through our Services (such as senior care providers, business partners, or by navigating to external websites or social media platforms) please be aware that these entities are independent controllers of your Personal Data. This means they handle your data according to their own privacy policies and practices, which are not governed by this Privacy Policy. For example, if you request information about a senior living community, we may, after obtaining any required consent, share your contact details with that provider so they can respond directly to you. Similarly, if you click on a link to an external website or interact with a social media feature on our Website, any data you provide will be subject to that third party's privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party entities you interact with to understand how they collect, use, and protect your information.
9. Data Security
9.1 We use a variety of administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the Personal Data we collect from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These security measures are designed commensurate with the sensitivity of the data involved. We restrict access to Personal Data to authorized employees and contractors who need that information to operate, develop, or improve our Services. We also require our service providers to implement reasonable security measures to protect the data we share with them.
9.2 Despite our efforts, no security measure is 100% perfect. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors may compromise the security of data. It is important that you also play a role in keeping your information secure. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password or credentials for access to certain parts of our Services (if in the future we offer accounts or login functionality), you are responsible for keeping those credentials confidential and for immediately notifying us of any unauthorized use of your account. Please be careful when disclosing information in public areas of the Website, as that information may be accessible to anyone.
10. Data Retention
We apply a general rule of keeping Personal Data only for as long as is required to perform the purpose for which it was collected. However, in some circumstances, we will retain your Personal Data for longer periods of time. We will retain Personal Data for the following purposes: (1) as long as it is necessary and relevant for our operations; (2) to comply with statutory or other obligations to which Caring is subject to; and (3) if and to the extent necessary, we need it to preserve evidence within the statutes of limitation. If you request deletion of your data, we will follow the process described in Section 12 (State Law Privacy Rights) below.
11. Personal Data of Children under Children's Online Privacy Protection Act
11.1 Our Services are not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Data from anyone under 13 years old. If you are under 13, please do not attempt to use our Services or send any Personal Data about yourself to us. In the event we learn that we have collected Personal Data from a child under 13, we will promptly delete that information from our records. If you believe that a child under 13 may have provided us with their information, please contact us using the information in the Contact section below so that we can take appropriate action.
11.2 Additionally, if you are between 13 and 16 years old and a resident of a jurisdiction like California that provides special rights for minors, you should only use the Services with involvement of a parent or guardian. We do not sell or share the Personal Data of consumers we actually know are less than 16 years old without affirmative authorization as required by law.
12. State Law Privacy Rights
12.1 Depending on your state of residence and subject to certain exceptions, you may have specific privacy rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act (OCPA), the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA), and other state privacy laws. The exact scope of these rights, as well as the definitions of terms like “sale,” “share,” “targeted advertising,” and “personal data” vary by state law. Subject to your state of residence and certain exceptions, you have the right to:
- Request access to the Personal Data via our “Control Your Information” information webpage and form we have collected about you over the past 12 months, including: (i) the categories of Personal Data we collect about you; (ii) the categories of sources from which the Personal Data is collected; (iii) the business or commercial purpose for collecting your Personal Data; (iv) the categories of third parties with whom we have shared your Personal Data; (v) the specific pieces of Personal Data that we have collected about you;
- Request that we delete Personal Data related to you that we collected from you under certain circumstances and exceptions;
- Correct the Personal Data you provided to us;
- Obtain a portable copy of your Personal Data;
- Opt out of selling or sharing your Personal Data; as defined under applicable state laws.
- Opt out of targeted advertisement;
- Not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights; and
- Either limit or require consent to process sensitive Personal Data (e.g., health-related information).
12.2 To exercise your rights, as described above, please use the methods indicated in Section 12.1 or contact us as stated in Section 15 (Contact Information). We will verify your request using the information associated with your account and we may ask for a driver’s license or other government-issued ID. You may also submit a request through an authorized agent so long as the agent is acting pursuant to a valid legal authorization (such as a power of attorney) or in the event of your incapacitation or death. We do not accept requests submitted by referral agents, third-party marketers, or other parties seeking to avoid contractual obligations (including referral fees) or act without your direct, legally valid authorization. Please see Section 2 (Consent and Opt-Out Rights) for more information regarding opt-out of the sale or sharing of your Personal Data.
12.3 States with Senior Consumer Protections
Certain states (such as Oregon, Oklahoma, Washington and others) have enacted laws to protect older adults when interacting with senior housing and care referral services. You may contact community@caring.com to exercise any of the applicable rights. If you reside in such a state, your rights may include, but are not limited to, the following:

12.4 Financial Incentive Programs: In addition, we may offer you financial incentives for the collection, sale and retention and use of your Personal Data. The material aspects of any financial incentive will be explained and described in its program terms. Please note that participating in incentive programs is entirely optional, and you can opt-out of each program (i.e., terminate participation and forgo the ongoing incentives) prospectively by following the instructions in the applicable program description and terms.

- Identity Verification and Limitations. To protect your data, we may request additional information to verify your identity before processing a data rights request. If we make material changes to the way we collect or use your Personal Data, or to other aspects of the Policy, we will provide you with notice as appropriate. This may include, for example, posting a prominent notice of the changes on our Website and/or emailing you if you have provided us with your email address.
