I have been staying at Pointe Meadows Health and Rehabilitation for 2 years now. It's a nice place. It's very clean. The staff is very caring and always willing to help when you need it. The food is pretty good. They have activities like bingo and crafts, but nothing outside the building since it's a rehab center. There are some single rooms and others that people share.

First, I’d like to acknowledge the professional supervisors at Pointe Meadows Rehab, who are responsive to issues. A nurse with off-the-shoulder hair was wonderful, while another with longer hair and glasses was unprofessional and looked down on my mom. The rehab staff worked well with my spunky 89-year-old mom, but she felt that a few extra rehab sessions daily would have better met her needs. Group rehab slowed her progress, and she was eager to work harder to go home. However, professionalism seemed lacking. We had heard great things about Pointe Meadows, but our experiences were disappointing. In the first few days, aids often failed to return after asking if my mom needed anything. The emergency button went unanswered, which is unacceptable in a nursing facility. My mom felt belittled by some staff who were robotic and insensitive. One night, while I was visiting, a staff member hurriedly brought my mom her meds using a cup of pudding that had already been used, raising serious health concerns. Additionally, one employee forgot about my mom in the bathroom for an hour after she requested help, despite her serious health issues. She pulled the emergency button several times with no response. We were deeply concerned about my mom's safety, especially after a recent neck surgery. We ultimately decided to hire an aide to monitor her and expedite her discharge due to the poor care. My sister, who works in nursing oversight, identified several violations. After four days, a supervisor questioned our discharge decision and provided false information regarding payment issues with Medicare. I confirmed with Medicare that we could leave without problems after three days. This experience has been troubling, and it is unfortunate that our interactions turned negative after we expressed our concerns.

I had rehab at Pointe Meadows Health and Rehabilitation. They have long-term on one side of the building and then the short-term rehab on the other side. The people were wonderful. The facility was beautiful and well-maintained. The administrator owner goes around to each of the rooms and talks to the people there and asks them how they're doing. "What could we do different," "are you making progress," "what's going on for you" and all that. That really impressed me that he would be willing to do that, and that was very good. I did not like the food. They had put some special nutrient stuff into it, and they were really excited thinking they were helping everybody's nutrition, but I didn't like how it made it taste. They didn't put enough salt in the food and didn't provide salt packets. I found myself eating less and less and just mostly drinking water. The only other complaint that I have is that their nursing crew did not catch fast enough the health crisis that I was going into. They recognized part of it, but they didn't realize where it was headed, and I don't think I did either. It wasn't until I went to my doctor appointment two-week follow-up that I found out I had major problems, and I was immediately sent to emergency surgery. I don't want to fault anybody. They need to redo the food, have a menu where people can make choices, and then train the staff more so that they can see a problem that's starting for one of their patients.
