The Gala at Texas Parkway is a regular senior citizen apartment. It is very, very affordable. The admission office and the maintenance are on top of whatever needs to be fixed or requires any maintenance. The property is very clean. My mom really doesn't use the services because she pretty much can do everything on her own. However, they have a pool and a gym for the residents, and it's very close to the park if they want to take a walk. My mom barely uses the pool, but she has time to go to the gym once in a while. My interaction with the staff has been nothing but professional. My mom cooks, and she does all of that by herself. She has her own kitchen and everything. The facility itself is pretty much brand new. For the value for the money, I would give it a 5 because you cannot get a brand new two-bedroom apartment for $1,000 a month, and everything is included. You just have to pay for your own utilities, but trash and everything else are included in the $1,000. You cannot get that anywhere else. I feel comfortable with her being there, and she likes it.

I live in the senior apartments of Gala at Texas Parkway, and they are not a good place for senior citizens. I do not recommend it. Right now, they're saying that my Medicare Part B isn't covered, but when I call Medicare and Medicaid, they say I'm fine. They want to raise my rent, and it's not worth it. There are two apartment complexes here. The other one is called Jubilee, and they are sister apartments, but there's only one manager and staff, and they're always at Jubilee. Nobody was ever at the Gala. The hallways are concrete and not even carpeted. When you open up your door, you're walking on concrete, which I can do, but there are a lot of people here who can't walk and could fall on that concrete and hurt themselves. We had a meeting with the owners, and they were saying they were going to fix it, but they haven't done anything but paint the walls. They're not taking care of the mold problems, and people moved out because their apartments were so full of mold. I know one gentleman who doesn't even have a bathroom sink because the whole bottom of it is rotted out from the sink leaking. They said they're ordering a new one, but he's been there four years, and he still doesn't have a new one. These are not good apartments to move into. They don't have anyone to clean the common areas and the fitness rooms. Half of the time, the fitness room is closed anyway, but it is also not maintained. They have no housekeepers. They only have maintenance people to mop the front area when people walk in, and that's the only place getting cleaned. The only good thing they have is the swimming pool, and it was closed all summer because it was green. They're just now getting it opened. The size of the rooms and the layout are good. I keep my apartment clean, but there's mold on the grates in the bathrooms. You also have to request that your air conditioner filters be changed. I've been here for three years, and it's only been changed twice. They don't come around and do regular maintenance like that unless you request it.
