I got into a 55-and-up apartment called Magnolia Trails. I wanted something independent and it's a beautiful place. They keep it well done and updated. They don't provide food. They have parties and potlucks all the time but you don't go down to dinner at a certain time or anything like that. My apartment is just a basic 1-bedroom apartment, probably a little over 700 square feet. I'm on the second floor, I have a balcony, and it's my favorite time of year so that helps, too. It's not brand-new, but it's kept very updated. It could be very posh but comfortable, and it's clean. They only have the front desk people as staff. They certainly have wheelchairs, walkers, and things like that. They also have an elevator system. They are very helpful, like getting doors for the residents, but I haven't seen any kind of medical care or anything here. They're super nice and it's been a good experience. They have a once-a-month birthday potluck dinner. They have game nights and movie nights, too. I'm sure they have other things that I don't know about yet but I'm also not a social butterfly. I like my own company and I love to read uninterrupted. I think it's well worth it, that's the reason why I'm okay paying this amount. I just think that rentals have gone out of sight. It's just unbelievable how a 1-bedroom could be $1,400 a month. Fortunately, with my income level, I was at 50% off or something, because it's income-based.
