I found the staff at Belmire to be extremely friendly and polite- completely ideal of what you would expect in a small town where everyone seemed to know one another. The amenities were older, but did not seem outdated. It appeared to me that the patients would have everything that they could possibly need so it didn't need to be a brand new place with fancy equipment. There were two things that stood out to me most: the patients there seemed generally happy and the staff did not neglect them. The stereotypical view of nursing homes is that the patients are all miserable and alone, but these patients were happy and had plenty to keep the preoccupied. Also the staff that I have experienced at other nursing homes are very rude, ignore the patients, and only have interaction with them when they make their forced rounds. Some staff members are obviously exceptions, but here every staff member I encountered was cheery and seemed to love their job. They interacted with the patients, they knew them, and they would even be talking to them when it didn't appear they were having to do rounds (instead of playing on Facebook like most of the other people I have seen).
