I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My family is heartbroken after the experience my grandmother had at the Gardens at Stevens. During her stay, it was clear the facility was severely understaffed. Patient call bells constantly went unanswered for long periods of time, and it often felt like there simply wasn't enough staff members available to provide timely care. My grandmother ultimately passed away from complications related to blood clots, and we feel that the lack of attention and delayed responses contributed to her decline. While we understand that healthcare environments can be busy, the level of inattention was unacceptable and deeply concerning. We are grieving, angry and deeply disappointed and contribute this to the administration for the cause of the blood clots. I truly hope this review encourages the facility to address their staffing issues and improve the quality of care for patients and their families so deserving of quality treatment. No one's loved should ever have to spend their final days feeling ignored or unattended. Meanwhile, we grieve the loss of our mother, grandmother and friend.

They are consistently understaffed. The communication is terrible between all staff, departments and each shift. Waiting an hour or more after pressing the call button was normal. It was very common to tell something important to the charge nurse on the floor and then not have it followed through the very next shift or day. The answer for this was- "I don't know who you talked to." Apparently, there is no way to communicate to others, i.e. different shifts depts etc. If only there was! It was a shame that physical therapy did not establish or share a treatment plan with the family as there is in other places. There was also the frequent losing of the hearing aids, not putting the brace on the "dropped" foot, not allowing the patient to brush their teeth, as well as waiting 2-3 weeks before getting a shower after 1st arriving, a general lack of privacy, not following specific dietary needs, and then yelling at the patient who was blind in 1 eye when they asked what food was on their plate so they did not get sick, taking personal furniture and putting it in other patient's rooms. These were among several of the everyday common occurances. The "agency" temp help were in many ways more efficient and caring than a lot of the regular staff.

My mom moved into The Gardens at Stevens. The staff has been wonderful. One of my mom's complaints is that she's not crazy about the food. The facilities are nice, and she likes the activities. It's not the most expensive place we've toured, but we couldn't afford many of the places. So, for the money, the facility is adequate. We chose The Gardens at Stevens because my mom liked this place the best.

My MIL has been there for several weeks. Gave them a list of things she COULD NOT have to eat. She is diabetic and has gout. She keeps being served She cannot have. Today the dietician came in while we were there, she said she was never told any of this. The communication between Drs,nurses and tech staff is non- existent. The staff wears whatever they want, not scrubs. Jeans, sweatshits,t sjirts, etc. Very unprofessional. We spent 10 hours with her one day not one person came to check on her. Not one Dr,nurse or tech in 10 hours. She needs insulin 2x per day-- never got it. No baths,no washing hair, but sure has lots of candy and cookies to eat.(which she cannot have). Unfortunately this is all she can afford for now but we have sent Letts and emails to Gov.Wolfe but no reply. We called PA dept of aging they said we need to contact Lancaster County,we did that---absolutely no help. We are trying to find somewhere else to put her and praying she doesn't pass until we can get her the help she needs. Please DO NOT use this facility.

My mom moved into The Gardens at Stevens. The only reason we chose it was because it was in my mom's hometown. That's where most of her family is, so they could visit. It was clean and personable, but not hardly anything in the way of amenities or activities. They have bingo. The staff members were all very friendly and caring. It's an old place and not very big. She could be in a much nicer place. A separate living room, they didn't even have that for the guest. They should provide more activities and have a communal lounge area and TV area.
