In and around 1975, the Reverend Clifford Carr asked members of the Parish of the Holy Family Episcopal Church, composed of St. Mary's Church in Wind Gap, PA and St. Joseph's Church in West Bangor to consider "community outreach" by establishing a facility for senior citizens on a fixed income, under the direction of the United States Department of Housing and Urban DevelopmentThe Episcopal Apartments of the Slate Belt is a 94 unit apartment complex located in the beautiful rural community known as Bangor, Pennsylvania (Slate Belt). The Episcopal Apartments of the Slate Belt is owned and operated by the Episcopal Apartments of the Slate Belt, Inc. and operates under a Section 202/8 Housing Assistace Contract with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Section 8 of the United States Housing Act enables the Episcopal Apartments of the Slate Belt to offer affordable, safe, decent and sanitary housing to the elderly and mobility impaired individuals that meet the income and screening criteria as set forth by HUD and Episcopal Apartments of the Slate Belt's Tenant Selection Plan (see Rents - Qualifications for Housing - Tenant Selection - Plan).
