My mother will be moving into Meridian Nursing Home. I liked that it was a smaller facility. The thing that I kind of disliked a little was that it's just a little outdated. But because it was a smaller facility, the residents would get more one-on-one care. It seemed very homey. I only interacted with the activity director. Showed me around for a little, so I didn't encounter too many of the staff. But they seemed friendly in the halls that we went to if they weren't already in a room. The rooms were nice-sized rooms, but since a nearby nursing home had closed, they got a little bit more residents. So, some residents had to have a roommate now. But even then, they still have the curtain in between to grant each resident her own privacy. They will get a choice of breakfast. Whatever they want for breakfast, they'll make that for them. The dining area was outdated compared to other facilities, but it was clean. They had this thing where they sit in the chair and play kickball to kind of help them move their own feet. They also had this long treadmill with bars on each side, and they were helping them walk. They had a few physical therapy-type things there. They also had movie nights for them. When you first walked in, there were 2 different TVs in there to watch movies.

The decision to put my mother-in-law in a nursing home was because the care at home had gotten to the point where I could not manage her. Meridian Nursing Home was the only one that would accept her at that time. We thought since it's a smaller nursing home, there would be more close attention. But again, it wasn't. Her hair does not get washed when they take her in the shower, her nails didn't get cut, they don't put lotion on her after shower, I can go on and on. It was awful. She was not getting even the basic care. Her clothes are always missing or mismatched. I was there as much as I could be. One thing would get fixed and then another would go wrong. It was an older facility and probably in need of remodeling. Everything was fairly clean, but it was not as nice as the others. It needs a lot more improvement and it is showing its age. They just serve whatever food is available. It seemed like they were always eating soups and sandwiches. There was not much variety and taste.
