I visited this facility

Hill View Retirement Center was good. What I like the best would be the facility itself, and the least would be that they are understaffed. I have had meals there; their food was excellent. They had very good meatloaf and potatoes. They have a nice lobby area for communal watching of TV, and they have a chapel on Sundays. They decorate very nicely for all the holidays and seasons. It's cheerful looking.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

At Hill View, they are great. They are friendly, super, and much cheaper. It is built around a lake, so the residents have an even better view. They could look out over the lake and see the ducks, the chickens, and the trees. I really like this community. At Hill View, they have a friendly staff and good food. Bill's mother is very happy there. Regarding their apartments, you got new carpets and paintings, so that makes it a little bit nicer. They have tons of activities. They have a little store there which the residents manned. The bus takes them to different places during different days. They will have a picnic outside rather than eating inside, so they're always doing something for the residents to make it fun.

I visited this facility

Hill View is in a small rural area. It's very pretty, very affordable and they had continuing care packages, very workable for me. You're going to buy into it and then you pay a monthly thing. Medicaid would then kick in when the money runs out but that won't be for a while. I've already made a commitment to them. There were lots of activities inside primarily which I observed but I saw a lot of people walking and a lot of people with walkers outside. They had a media room and a post office. They had craft rooms and card rooms. Everyone really seemed to enjoy it there.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My parents-in-law stayed at Hill View Retirement Center. It was beautiful and clean. The hospital was beside the center and there was a pond, animals, trees and walkways on the ground where the residents could go out and enjoy. The rooms and bathrooms were always clean and never smelled. They also had rooms for married couples and you could bring your own furniture. The food was fabulous, we ate with them. When the residents want a snack at night, they would make a sandwich and not just milk or juice. The dining room was spacious to accommodate wheelchairs, and well-decorated. The staff were very caring and they did a lot of things with the residents as long as they were able to. When my mother-in-law died, they watched my father-in-law like a hawk. They sat down with him and talked with him. I liked the love and care that they showed and gave to the residents.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I visited Hill View Health Center to visit a family member. I was very happy to see that this company takes pride in providing proper care for the people who live here. The rooms were very clean and there is enough staff to care for everyone. I do like the meals they offer. I wish there was more activities and outside time made for the residents. I do not know why the residents are not given outside time by the staff. The rooms are a good size and Hill View Health Center does offer private suites for the residents. There are mostly 2 person suites though. There is always an LPN available if needed as well as a nurse. The building is in good repair and the landscape is beautiful. I also enjoy the on site pond. I would recommend this facility for anyone who wants a peace of mind knowing their loved one is being cared for properly.

I visited this facility

The facility cleanliness was outstanding and am sure it meets beyond standard requirements. The staff that work there are very friendly and helpful. They made sure to show me everything I needed to know and let me preform the tasks by myself with their supervision to help me learn better. The residents love their nurse aids which shows how well the nurse aids take care of the residents. The facility has a flexible and convenient schedule for residents family to come and visit. overall I really enjoyed doing my clinicals there and wouldnt mind working there full time.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I have visited Hillview Retirement Center located in Portsmouth, OH many times and know it very well. I have an aunt and an uncle that have lived there for about 5 years. They love it and are very happy with it. The staff at Hillview works hard to accommodate the members, they help when needed and try to provide the best experience for the members. They have many activities that they are able to choose from. I have personally eaten with them at dinners and it is a great place to eat. The facility is very well maintained and clean. There are many opportunities for people to socialize if they like and get to know each other which are very important. The rooms are spacious enough and a good fit for older people. Outside there are places for people to walk and get outdoors. The neighborhood is nice and in a safe area in Portsmouth, OH. I would highly recommend Hillview Retirement Center to anyone who is looking for assisted living.
