We just returned from a multi-day visit with a family member who is a resident in the Special Care Unit at Fairlawn Haven. Our family member has been a resident for almost a year and we have been delighted with the care of the staff in the unit where she is. Of course, there has been a transition period between independent living and the "group home" situation that becomes necessary at some point. The staff at Fairlawn have been understanding and supportive from day one and the result has been acceptance and a true sense of affection for the caregivers in the unit. Being at a considerable distance from Archbold, we have relied the past year on the Social Services Manager, Kris for her help with communications via Skype sessions, emails and her advice in general. She and the nursing staff have been our eyes and ears. We offer our thanks for the safety, comfort and well-being of our loved one.

I would never ever take any of my family members to this facility. My mother n law and ex mother n law both were here and they were treated poorly, neglected it was anwful ended up that they both passed away one fell and hit her head the other got infection it spread and killed her. The staff was awful and they did not take good care of them. Makes me sick. DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!

The experience that I had at Fairlawn in Archbold, Ohio was an average experience. The rooms were very small and crowded for two people who are supposed to be living in the rooms. They didn't have any space for their own clothing but a very small closet. The room was very small to allow family members to come and visit, if you wanted to spend a lot of time with the resident you had to have a nurse come and help you move them into the common area where it was very hard to understand your family member, or into the dining hall. The staff was friendly when they wanted to be. They were rude 90% of the time, because you asked them about something with your family member. Especially when your family member is sick or you are waiting to get results from the doctor after they had come in for a visit. If you are just asking for help with moving your family member then you are ok. Overall the care of your family member is good at Fairlawn, but the staff can be a little on the rude side to family members.
