My sister, Anne, was a hospice patient for the last week of her life at Merwick Care. I can't say enough of the excellent treatment she received from the Merwick staff. Doctor, nurses and all others were so kind to us as we dealt with our loss. Thank you so much.

I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. They almost killed my dad - luckily there was one attentive nurse at 2:00AM that decided to DO HER JOB and check on my dad. At that point he was unresponsive and he was rushed to the ER at Penn Medicine. His room was dirty, the staff was unfriendly, the receptionist was annoyed at doing her job. My dad went here on Oct 9th after being in Penn Medicine's care for 40 days. He wasn't able to dress himself and was just learning how to feed himself and pull himself up out of his bed again. They didn't care if he wasn't able to reach his food or open a container of juice or milk. He was relearning to eat so occasionally food would fall on his shirt or into his bed. I found eggs in his bed! Are you serious?!!!! His shirt was dirty at times when I saw him and it was the same shirt he had on the night before. I never saw a nurse come in during the days or nights I was there. The worst was when my dad wasn't urinating and acted out in a violent matter. When my mom told the nurse about what happened, she said oh, that sounds like a UTI to me. Well, if that was what she thought, WHY DIDN'T she check him for a UTI?? My mom had to ask the nurse the next day what they were going to do about the fact that my dad hadn't urinated in almost 2 days. They finally had to put a catheter in and he urinated. However, at that point, his blood pressure was very low and his oxygen levels were low as well. That was the night he ended up in the ER almost dead. The whole experience there was horrible and my family and I will NEVER send my dad back there NOR recommend it to anyone!

I want to tell the story of how this facility allowed more than $10,000 worth of my mother’s jewelry (rings) to be stolen right off her fingers. When I asked management about this, they seemed indifferent and offered no assistance by way of an investigation. Big tip for all family members of residents: do not let your loved ones bring anything of value to the facility. This theft, and the lack of concern about it, really soured my feelings about my mother’s experience at Merwick. The rooms were fine. My mother had a double room with an adjustable curtain dividing the two halves of the room. My mother’s appetite was very diminished during her seven years at Merwick. Generally speaking, the food was satisfactory. There were always plenty of activities for residents along with entertainment. Overall, the care my mother received over her 7-year stay was adequate. I never noticed any signs of abuse or neglect (with the exception of the theft of her jewelry). The prices went up every year. I cannot compare how expensive Merwick is compared to other similar facilities. Please do not let any resident bring anything of value to the facility. My experience, and the trauma experienced by my mother as a result of having her cherished jewelry stolen, should serve as a cautionary tale.

This is one of the worst facilities ever. My husband was here for a few days and it almost cost his life. He was given too much BP meds. BP went down to 60/36 and was rushed back to the ER. The staff is horrible and will not come when you call for them. I would not recommend this place to my dog.

Having a loved one in a long term care facility, sick with cancer is already one of the biggest challenges a person can have in their lives. When looking for a care facility, you need people who are compassionate and skilled in everything they do. Whether it's the nurses, the janitors, or the front desk receptionists, everyone in this line of work should provide warmth to the families visiting. Unfortunately, at Merwick Care & Rehabilitation Center, the first face you see in the door is the receptionist and in my case, it was Connie. She was absolutely atrocious. I have never met someone so rude and disrespectful in a care facility before, or honestly, at any place of employment. The fact that she even has a job after administering such behavior in a workplace is quite unbelievable. She should not be working in a facility like this. When I brought my concern to a manager, after I was treated so poorly and with such an attitude by Connie while visiting my dying father, I was told that poor Connie was under a lot of stress. Connie, a receptionist at Merwick, was under a lot of stress and therefore, that meant she could lash out at visitors, mock them, and talk about them to other people (IN FRONT OF THEM- I can hear you, Connie). People visiting care facilities usually have a very ill or dying family member. Personally, I think that is more stressful of a life than Connie, who must answer phones and have people sign in on sheets when visiting. Merwick could have decent doctors, nurses, nursing aids, social workers, but who can even evaluate that after meeting such a horrid human being in the first five steps. Merwick seriously needs to take a look at how the face of their business is treating individuals because it is completely unacceptable for any line of work.

My siblings and I highly recommend Merwick Rehabilitation. Our elderly father received wonderful care and physical therapy there following a hospitalization. He was there for 20 days and one of us was there every day to visit him and observe his care. He was in a big room on the second floor with a giant tv, a nice view and a desk. The facility is clean and well organized. The nurses, doctor, administrators, social worker, aides, therapists, cleaners and dining room workers were all kind, easily accessible and helpful in every way.

When I entered Merwick 3 weeks ago, I was in extreme pain from a compressed fractured vertebrae. I could barely move and was very frightened. Dr. Sidhu and her caring team of professionals worked to alleviate my pain and enable me to begin therapy asap. The therapists were encouraging and urged me to try my utmost. The support staff and nurses followed through in the planning and were a large part in my success. Merwick is decorated in soothing blues, meticulously maintained and well run. If you must rehab, I strongly recommend Merwick.

Merwick Care & Rehabilitation Center was modern, new, sunny and bright, but I was disappointed that the Alzheimer's patients were intermingled with the cognitively healthy patients. Everyone was grouped together, so it's a bit depressing. The first floor was for the general nursing care, but the second floor had an influx of a specific community. A couple years ago, the majority of their patients were Indian, so they placed them on the second floor. When I visited, the majority of their patients were Asians, so they placed them on the second floor as well. The rooms were spacious. The staff seemed fine, and the person during the tour was wonderful. The facility was nice, and the courtyard was very nice. There's a computer room with some books and outside had a little putting green.

I spent two and one half months at Merwick. Management was hands on, especially Lori and Amanda. They made it a point to check on my well being and progress. Therapists were excellent! Facility was clean. Nurses and aides were overworked, but very good. My only negatives, were the food and cleanliness in the gym. The food was tasteless and the food served was often not what I had ordered. As for the gym, they need an aide to wipe down the equipment after each use. If you have friends or relatives bringing you real food, then I highly recommend Merwick.

Merwick Care & Rehabilitation Center is clean and the staff is very nice. They just have a problem with communication in therapy, but the people are very nice. The food is institutional, but it was OK, and we will go back. The cost is expensive, more so than others, but it's also superior to them so you get what you pay for.

I am very unhappy with the care my husband is receiving. He is in there for rehab and is upset every day. Let me preface this by letting you know he is a very easy patient at home and rarely complains. In fact, he is very grateful and appreciative no matter what happens. Since entering Merwick he does nothing but complain to the point it's getting hard for me to visit him. But he has reason! The care is poor. Really poor. He can press his call button and it can be easily half an hour until someone responds. He can't go the bathroom without help. He started asking for help at 3:00 and finally got on the commode at 7pm! There is a huge disconnect between doctors and staff. PT promises one thing and there's no follow through. The food might be okay, but by the time it's delivered to my husband it's lukewarm and seldom has any condiments. I have to go get them. Most of the staff is very unfriendly. Cracking a smile at this place must be illegal or something. Don't get me wrong, there are a couple of caring sweet staff members, but they're not the norm. There are two things I've learned----if someone you love is placed here, you better make sure you're here A LOT to advocate for them. And---when my 91 year old parents need a care facility, no way would I EVER put them here. There have to be better places and I'm going to start the research now!

This is a live review from the center. My 90+ year father in law who is here post his cancer treatment had his hearing aid stolen/ misplaced day one. They don’t take responsibility and keep blaming the Princeton Hospital and the hospital blames the rehab facility. Care is of worst than 3rd world country. Care givers seem like not interested in the job they are hired to do. You can hear patients here screaming for help from pain or need to go to the bathroom but no one from staff cares. If anyone from the leadership ever reads this review or cares, you should fire some of your useless staff onsite and implement strict measures and disapline on patient care. Processes and performance needs to be reviewed and staffing needs to be reorganized. Surprise checks and tool based montinoring needs to be implemented. Remember someday we all will be visiting such a facility so please people who have the authority to fix this please do so and remember there is some thing called Karma and no one is excused.

Placed 88 yr. old mother at Merwick to rehab from a broken femur. She was there approx. 5 weeks. I was there daily and here are my observations as follows. First let me preface with if you or a family member are fairly independent as far as bathroom and bathing, your medication knowledge, you'll do fine at this subacute. I will be very objective as I have had the experience of 4 rehab's over the period of 7 years for my mother. 1) The nursing supervisor's attitude, to me, set the tone there. Her appearance of how she handled herself trickled down to the staff and CNA's. If you needed a question answered or help, i.e. having CNA answer the call button, you will be waiting on an average just under 20 minutes. This turned out to be an unpleasant experience. I feel as though CNA's could be trained in geriatric care to be more pro-active than to wait until there's a problem. Nursing Supv. did not know where staff was and gave impression she was inconvenienced looking for them. We are all human & have bad days but this seemed to be the norm. 2) Please read other reviews regarding food delivery - no need to repeat. 3) Because of the nursing supervisor's disposition I felt all areas of care were compromised. 4) Next step, - called Director of Nursing re questions, called Therapy Program Manager, called Business Co-ordinator of ins. - none of them returned calls whether it be that evening or next day. 5) The Kessler trained Physical Therapists and Occupation Therapists are well trained, professional and excellent people to work with. They pretty much adhere to a schedule and the goals were well outlined. My mother did get a bedsore or pressure wound as the staff on weekend's had insufficient coverage. I was told this. 6) I witnessed a real disconnect and lack of cohesion with the CNA's, nursing staff and PT department. When PT asked a CNA to assist or to sign off on paperwork, they seemed "put out". 7) Medication changes were never communicated to family member. Had to keep asking what changes were made if any. 8) I think a quick 5 minute weekly meeting with: a family member; a nurse; a PT person; a social worker would eliminate the need for family member in charge to go to different areas asking questions. Again always felt I was inconveniencing them. Tried to be minimal and have questions ready as I understand they too have their job to do and that was respected. No one from Merwick suggested a follow-up visit with surgeon and getting them there . That fell upon family member to make all arrangements happen. 9) The "very pleasant and positive" Guest Relations Manager made rounds to make sure everyone was happy and doing well. But I think if we had a weekly 5 min. meeting as mentioned above I think it would have been less work on the G.R. Manager (to be pro-active rather than to wait). 10) More emphasis needs to be placed on the socialization aspect as it helps a patient's well being in every which way. 11) Food is decent. 12) Amenities may be could have been explained and what to expect upfront upon arrival.

The nursing care is poor. No one comes when you call for help. The food arrives cold and inedible.

Merwick Rehab Hospital & Nursing Care was adequate and good. From what I observed, my mother was cared for and tended to. They also attempted to give her rehab for mobility. They treated her with respect there, and the place was very clean.

Don't be fooled by its look! I've friend who was here and swears, she'll never going back here. Never go to this facility, poor service, poor management, takes forever before staff will attend to you, overall... Don't ever put your loved ones in this facility not unless you have no other choice.
