My grandmother has lived at the Evansville Residence for approximately 5 years now. I have a few criteria I am basing the review of this facility on: cleanliness, attention & knowledge of staff, entertainment, medical, and the overall "mood" or "atmosphere", whis is of course my subjective opinion. This facility looks to be definitely clean -- bed sheets/linens, clothing, floors, bathrooms, etc., all seem to be fresh, clean or laundered. I have noticed that turn-around time of soiled garments or linens is very quick. The staff gets mixed reviews from me. There are several who really know what they are doing, and go above and beyond to be the very best that they can for the residents. However, there are also several staff that do not seem to know, or care, very much for the welfare of the residents. From what I understand, turnover (of employees) tends to be extremely high at this facility. In one specific example, my grandmother broke her leg very severely, due to lack of training and/or precautions taken by staff at the Evansville Resident. Further complicating matters was the on-staff liaison to Social Services, who was unwilling to help us in our investigation as to the nature of said accident. There is little no no on-site entertainment -- my grandmother said there used to be "wii bowling parties", but from what I understand, even those have been done away with. It seems residents are mostly left to their own devices to find distractions. Medical service seems adequate. The on-site nurses look like they know what they are doing, but are quick to escalate to doctors (the closest of which are of 15 miles away), when they deem necessary. Overall, I would say the overall mood of the residents is negative, although this seems to change from day to day, as one would expect in a facility such as this. I believe that if the staff were to attempt to provide more entertainment options, this could be greatly improved. I would rate this facility a B-, overall.
