The Brook of Gladwin

I visited The Brook of Gladwin. It was good, and the staff was friendly. The rooms were fine. They have different-sized rooms, so you can pick what you want. The rooms are clean, and they have everything that we need. It seemed like it was laid out efficiently. There are a lot of common areas, and the cafeteria is nice. They got games and stuff that they can play. They have certain items that are always available, like coffee, juice, cookies, and things like that. The dining area is nothing extraordinary, but it's adequate. They have exercise time and game time. They have a regular schedule of activities.

We had serious questions on medications. On one visit we had 3 different aides tell us 3 different stories on when the patient received controlled medications. 30 minutes ago, two hours ago, and 4 hours ago. This was a controlled pain medication that should have been closely monitored. Several other issues were also worrisome.

My mother is at The Brook of Gladwin. It's a community housing with the standard amenities. They get meals in the dining rooms, and they have elective activities for them. The staff provides assistance with bathing and getting her out of bed. I talked extensively with the administrator, and I have a really comfortable feeling that she manages things well. The staff morale is good, and they're patient. They take care of the patients, they understand what their duties are, and they're professional. They do what needs to be done, but they're truly kind. They treat patients with respect and not all of those kinds of organizations perform that well. I'm very comfortable with how The Brook is doing. Her room is kind of a suite. They have meetings where they sing songs together and have stretching exercises for everybody. They have bingo and card playing. They have a beauty salon.
