"Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg is pretty good and things are going pretty well for my sister. It's really clean and we like the size of my sister's unit. It has a larger kitchen than most, a different entryway, and has just been re-carpeted and repainted. We liked the idea of having out meals provided. Most of the people are older than my sister, but she's pretty happy there. They have Bible study, Bingo, Happy Hour, and cakewalks. My sister also works out in wheelchair aerobics. They have a vehicle that can take them to doctors' appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I like the dining area because the independent people eat in a different place from the assisted living residents. The food is good and my sister likes it. They don't serve lunch, but they take them out for lunch every once in a while, and they take them to the grocery stores where they can buy food for their noontime meal. They eat dinner between 4:30 and 6:00. The independent living area is immaculate and very clean."

"My father-in-law stayed at Commonwealth Senior Living at Gloucester House. They were great. They're very caring people who went out of their way to make them comfortable. It was well kept up and very clean, and they took a lot of time and effort with its appearance. The food was pretty good. It's on par with most restaurants around here. It was well worth the cost of somebody being there. They have some very nice facilities and corresponding to that, the rates were reasonable. It was the colocation with the hospital, which is very good, and the closeness to home that sold us on the place. There are probably two or three that were a little nicer, but they were much further away."

"The Gardens of Virginia Beach is just down the street. My wife and I toured it and we're very happy and satisfied with it. She and I won't have to travel far to see my dad. The staff was very helpful. They didn't just wait for me to ask questions but I could tell from the conversation that they were looking for questions I might ask. We saw 3 different rooms. One room was big for what we were looking for. The smaller one was too small. But the middle one was just right and cozy. The most alluring feature of this facility is the general accessibility and the atmosphere of the whole place. I would absolutely recommend them to others. "

"We have decided on Edgeworth Park at New Town. The staff was very helpful and the place was very clean and open. It's a relatively small place, and that's why we chose it. All the meals are provided, and they have regular activities like playing games and going on field trips to local places. Their dining room was very nice; it's a bit small, but open. It's just a very nice place and it definitely felt homey. They have a nurse's station and everything like that but it has a cozy feel to it."

"We have chosen Commonwealth Senior Living at Leigh Hall for my parents. It was a combination of reasons, but location was the key. It is really close to where my parents' home was, so that was one factor. The staff was really great. However, in terms of appearance, I would have chosen another place. My parents have not participated in activities. I saw them having a church service, and some residents were playing bingo."

"My father has been a resident for 4.5 years. He is blind, almost deaf and his mind is slipping. As his condition has declined, he has needed additional care. He is now at the highest level of care in the memory unit. I visit him every day and have the resources to place him in any facility. I have never once, considered moving him to another facility. All facilities have rooms, walls, heat and air-conditioning. What keeps my father here is the quality of the staff and the attention that he receives. I have a white board in his room so that the staff can let me know, without tracking anyone down, his daily condition, did he eat, how much, what is his mood is, any other issues I need to know about. They do this EVERYDAY. I cannot more highly recommend this facility."

"I visited Bickford of Chesapeake. They had the salon, the physical therapy, and the restaurant. They have all the things that you would think you'd need. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, very welcoming, very personable, and very good at her job, and we liked her very much. The issue was that it came down to making a decision, and she didn't have availability. The facility was very nice. I never went to anything that was nicer. It just had a nice warm feeling, a place where anybody would be happy to live, and it was well-kept."

"The staff at Harmony at Independence was very friendly. The facility was very nice, and they had a lot of activities for the adults. It didn't seem like a nursing home, and I felt it was a very diverse mix of residents. My father would comfortably fit in there. The staff was very attentive. You could see that they had a rapport and relationship with the residents. They had a movie theater room. They had an activity room, 2 libraries, and a gym area."

"I went to Viva Senior Living at Chesapeake. Everything was memory care. The person that we met with and took the tour with was very personable, good, knowledgeable, and explained everything well. The facility was old, and it showed signs of age, and the rooms weren't appealing. The staff was very informative, and he followed up several times. He was putting the best face forward for the facility. Somebody comes in for the salon, nail, hair, that kind of stuff. They had a common shower. Bathing was like in a college dorm. You have to go down the hall to get your shower."

"My husband has moved to Commonwealth Senior Living at Cedar Manor. I like the cleanliness, the food, and the friendly staff. They have tons of activities for the residents. We like that he can control his room temperature because he's cold always, it's clean, fresh, and also new. They have nice little things for the family like a Family Night once a month, and they have a theme. The residents prepare crafts and things just to help decorate for whatever the theme is. He loves the food there. The staff would depend on who's on duty. The only thing is that it's limited on who you use for hospice, you have to go within their network."

"I frequently go into Dominion Village, to visit loved ones and my friends loved ones. the building itself is an older building as it's been here for as long as I can remember. But the care that the staff there provides is unlike anything I have ever seen elsewhere. From top to bottom all the staff care about all the residents and the residents families. It is family. I've had family and friends both as a resident there and it truly does turn into home. Its hard to leave your home to move into an assisted living, but somehow the staff at dominion village make it easier but helping you and your family adjust to your new home "
