"Now, my parents are in Pioneer Manor. We are very impressed. It is about three years old, and it is in a village concept. When you enter, there is a large entry hallway that is beautiful. It has sitting areas and gathering places. In the entry area, there are four hallways that go to the different villages, and one of the villages is an Alzheimer's lockdown unit. The other three are more just nursing home units. My dad is there too. He has memory issues, but he does not have Alzheimer's. So, they moved mom with dad into a regular unit. They are sharing a couple's room, and its working OK. They have a bracelet on her, so if she wanders towards the exit door, it will set out an alarm. We are impressed because they do have better trained staff to deal with dementia. It is just really nice. Mom and dad's couple room is large. It has a big open room with a bed, a dresser, a rocking chair, a TV and stuffs. There is a bathroom and a closet. Each unit has their own kitchen area/dining area. So, most of the food is prepared in each unit. They have activities. They have concerts. They do ice cream socials, bingo, and different activities. The nice thing is, they take my dad to those activities, and someone will stay with my mom because she tends to panic when dad goes off without her. It's nice that dad can do activities because they have someone to stay with mom. "

"Wheatridge Park Care Center seemed a little older, but it was kept up nicely. Each patient either could share a room or they had a private room to themselves, and you could have your own private bathroom. Actually, my mother-in-law stayed there, and every time I went there it seemed like they were always serving meals. If she didn't like the meal they offered, they had an alternative. You could get like a sandwich and chips or something like that. When I first walked in, the first thing on the right would be the physical therapy, and there was somebody in there, and it seemed like the physical therapist was very active in her work with the patients. I noticed that she was always there working patients constantly. They also had a fairly good-sized dining room. They gave patients a choice of either dining in the dining room or dining in their bedroom. The staff seemed very helpful. The place seemed clean."

"About six years ago we had to put my grandfather in a nursing home and we didn't have a whole lot of options due to his location in Kansas. We wanted to put him in a home that was caring and had strong Christian values, since that is the way he lived his life. We chose the Good Samaritan Society across the street from his church. The people there are great, and really care about the patients. As with any place, there are workers that do better than others and take more care for the patients, but overall they all do a great job. The Employees are very professional and personable; they really invested in my grandfather, and took care of him. They talk to him as if he knew everything that was going on, even though he is not completely aware of his surroundings. The facilities are good, the rooms are perfect for one person, but are a little cramped when two patients share a room. "

"I thought Homestead Estates Home Plus was very clean. You could tell that people were keeping it clean. The rooms were on the small side, but what I liked about it is that they allowed the patients to bring in whatever they wanted from home. They could bring in their own drapes, decorations, or furniture, or anything they wanted to do in their room. It wasn't an apartment, but it was a room that they could decorate however they wanted to. And they got their own telephone and their own cable too. The staff who gave me the tour was very kind, very friendly, and very helpful. They seemed very caring, like they cared about their patients. The dining area was a large room with a kitchen area, and they serve them in a home-style setting at a table. We looked at all the rooms that were available to see. They had smaller rooms and larger rooms. Each one came with its own bathroom. It was all renovated, all up to date, and all new. What I liked about it was that it was Christian affiliated, and they said they offer prayer time, and they said prayers daily, which I thought was really good, which no one else seemed to offer. They were very helpful, too. They offered to help in the insurance and things like that. They offered any help they could give that was needed. You could also see that everyone had kept things up clean. The bathroom facilities were new, and they even had a brand-new whirlpool that the patients could go into, which I thought was really nice. They had a whirlpool for therapeutics and for a good bath. The whirlpool is very, very good for your health, for your circulation, and everything."

"My mother was a resident at the Satanta Long Term Care Unit for nearly 14 years. She was an Alzheimers patient. I can honestly say that my Mom was treated with the utmost respect and very well taken care of. The Dr.'s, Nurses, CNA's and other staff members are to be commended for a job well done. I would highly recomend this facility. "
