We chose Crest Ridge Estates because my in-laws are in Creston and for the cost and services. They offer meals and activities, and my in-laws seem happy with them. The food is great. They have a library and people coming in to do the beauty shop.

I've moved into Crest Ridge Estates. It's independent living for seniors. Meals at noon are so abundant, and there's plenty for the next meal. The people are very friendly. Some of them have been there for a long time and they like it. The apartments don't have many shelves. It does not adapt to short people. I can barely reach the bottom shelf. If there's any adaptation, it has to come from the person who is moving in. It's very inferior as far as accommodations are concerned. You have to adjust to it by bringing in shelving or more cabinets. It's very hard to work in a kitchen or anything that is meant for taller people. Even reaching the faucets, to turn them on and off is a strain on my back. When you look as an outsider, it looks very nice. Until you start trying to find a place to put anything, there isn't much. There's a nice deck on some of the apartments and I have one. If you're a little bit taller, and if you don't want to do anything but eat and sleep and play games and whatever else is fun for them, then you're satisfied, but I like to do things. This is the safest place for me to be right now, but when I looked at the place, it needed good cleaning, painting, and so on, and I had to tell them to do that. Some drains were plugged up, a faucet that flipflops from here to there. Those things should be taken care of before they even show the place to somebody or say, "This is something we're going to fix." It takes weeks and weeks to get anything done, like a stopped-up drain in the bathroom. It was stopped-up for weeks before they finally got it unstopped. The manager said, "Well, it was stopped-up with stuff you put on your dentures. I said, "Sir, I have used that on my dentures for many years. It has never stopped-up the drain." It's a task all the time to try to keep things done. The mail comes into the office part and it's at the highest box. I said, "Can you put me in another box where it's lower?" They said, "No. The government won't allow that at the post office." I talked to the postman, the next day, and he said, "No, that's not true." Then they had another excuse. I'm supposed to wait and catch some other person that lives there to open up the box for me and get my mail. The food is excellent. There's something different every day, it's generous, very attractively served, with nice clear goblets for your water. Everything is very attractive and extra special, so that makes it worth living there. They have activities that most of the clients designed for themselves. They play cards, they play games of different kinds, and there are some exercises, and most of it is motivated by members. Somebody comes in and plays a guitar and plays music. It's a matter of choice. You don't have to stay and listen, but I stay and clap because there are people who like it. Some people just love it, but I don't love it. I don't even like it, but it's a safe place. I know some people would say that their needs are being met, but my needs are not being met. It's cheap materials that they used to build the interior, but the outside looks quite grand.
