"I went to Friendship Village twice. I liked them, but they would not work with me. They're kind of hardnosed people. They don't budge on you. I talked to the staff, and they weren't very accommodating. They would not work with you. It was either you have the money or you don't, so I didn't care for that. It's an absolutely beautiful place. It was my number one choice until they wouldn't work with me. They wouldn't do anything, and they had a flippant attitude. Their attitude was take it or leave it."

"I toured Garden Place Columbia with my dad. It's much larger. It was absolutely beautiful. The rooms were fabulous. The person who gave me the tour was wonderful. She was great. Their dining area looks ideal. It's perfect. They have rooms for activities and then they have a list posted of what the activities are going to be for the next month. I was very impressed with that. The facility was beautiful. It looks new and well maintained."

"I visited The Villa at Riverwood. It was very nice and very close to my house. The staff was good. I ate there and thought the food was good. They have activities and an exercise room. The rooms were very nice. During the time I visited, they had brought in a lady to demonstrate how to make a recipe, which I thought was nice. They had many sitting rooms for entertaining friends. The atmosphere in the dining room and facility was good. "

"Solstice Senior Living at Fenton is very nice. They provide three meals a day. It's all very clean and orderly. The staff who gave the tour was very nice and very patient with me. She took her time talking to me and my son, who toured with me. They put me on a waiting list. They have a chapel, a library, and a workout room. They have three levels, but each level has washers and dryers. The food was very good, too."

"Friendship Village is a beautiful facility. They have the nicest apartment. It is also roomy. They got a beautiful dining room. The place is very contemporary. It's a lovely facility but it's very spread out. For independent living that's fine, but when you get down and need more care, you feel like you're in a hospital. "

"Garden Place Senior Living Millstadt looked older and so much more like a nursing home than the other places I've been to. They didn't seem to have as many activities as the other places we've seen. What they had was music, some entertainment, bingo, and movies. I also didn't think they had quite enough staff. Other than that, it's a very clean place. The dining room was very pleasant looking. It was a large room and it was open on both ends to the common rooms in the lobby and then the kitchen on another side. It had a lot of windows."

"Lake St. Charles Senior Living Community is a small facility, so it was very convenient for my father to get around. The staff were outstanding. The food was very good. There was nothing I did not like about it at all, except that it was too far from my home. There are people playing the piano; they have bingo and other kinds of games going on. They have excursions to the parks from time to time. I would recommend this facility to people looking for a nicer place, because they are reasonably priced, and they provided very good care. It was very clean, well decorated. As far as I’m concerned, it is a nice place. "

"I toured Harvester Residential Care. It was good. It wasn't quite as new and nice as the other places, but they're doing some remodeling. They're working on the parking lot, and the staff told me they're getting ready to expand the facility. The rooms looked OK, but they're a little on the small side. Some have their own bathroom, some don't. She told me that all the rooms on one side of the hall had their own bathroom in the rooms. On the other side of the hall, they had shared bathrooms. The fellow who was supposed to meet me there by appointment was not there. But a very nice young lady gave me a tour of the facility and answered my questions. I saw that the dining area was very nice, large, and well-lit, with one full wall of windows to see out into the backyard. So, that was nice. I walked through a common area and three or four residents were watching a game show on TV."

"Revela at O'Fallon was brand new. It's beautiful. It's very impressive. It's huge. They have a bigger memory care wing, and so we went into that. Everything was great. It's just expensive. It's private pay, so once mom's money runs out, then she has to leave. The room was beautiful, clean, and new. The staff was very nice, and very gracious, took me around, and spent like 45 minutes with me. They have a pastry chef, so it's pretty amazing. They had a lot of people out doing things. Even within the memory care, they were participating in something. Either they were playing a game or they were doing some kind of activity. There's a courtyard, but it's all secure, and they're checking on them once an hour. It's not like they can leave without somebody knowing it, but you have the freedom to kind of move around and go to different areas."

"My mother has been at Garden Place for over two years now. They do independent living and assisted living, but they don't provide higher level of memory care. Nevertheless, we have been very happy with this community. My mother has a one-bedroom apartment there. They do her laundry, light housekeeping, and once a week they clean the bathroom and vacuum the floors. They also provide meals and activities. They have a bus that will take them to activities outside and to Walgreens and Wal-Mart. Their van accommodates wheelchairs. They are always trying something different."

"I chose it for my dad because it is very nice. The staff working there is very good. They also have a wide variety of social activities. They have outings, exercise, and book groups. I could say that the food is adequate. They don't have a dining room though. They have individual dining areas for the small groups. The security of the community is very good. "

"I toured The Boulevard of St Peters. The executive manager was awesome. He was so nice, caring, talkative, and guiding us in the right direction. The unit they showed me was two rooms. It's got a walk-in bath and a little kitchenette. The staff was beyond great. The place was brand new and perfect. They had a walking area, which was nice, too."

"I’ve just moved in to McCormack House. I chose it because it had a sliding scale as far as rent was concerned. When I called and visited, the staff, the leasing agent, and the building manager were so friendly and helpful, and every one of the residents that I met was friendly and loved the place. Tonight will be my first night here, but I can tell you that I love it. I know they have many health-related activities. People come in and speak about various health issues but they have a lot of fun stuff. I know that one of the high schools sends students in to play board games with the residents. They also go out; there are shopping trips. I believe there is a catered lunch 3 days a week that you pay extra for, but you don’t have to participate. One of the reasons I wanted to come here was because I wanted to be able to continue cooking my own meals. I have a beautiful little kitchen with lots of storage. It’s a beautiful place. I visited several other homes and nothing came close to this. "
