"I toured Benedictine Madonna Towers for my mom. It was light and bright. The residents appeared to be happy, and the staff frequently greeted them by name. They had a beautiful chapel and that was a selling point for us. They had exercise rooms, too. Plus, they had another room that they used for meetings but could also be rented by families if they were having a big family get-together. That was so appealing because we have a lot of family that lives out of town and if we ever decided to all be together at once, that would be nice to be able to have a facility we could meet in, so that was a selling point. They had a lovely garden, and there was a small library area that Rochester Public Library fills with books and then they replenish the books intermittently. Having the availability to kind of browse for your own books, check things out, and have them rotating so that it's not always the same books, was also appealing. Everyone seemed very friendly and helpful. The few times I was on the elevator, one of the nurses needed to get on, and they seemed very professional, and I was impressed."

"I toured Forte Living at Rochester, MN. I guess I liked it because it was new and it was very open and bright, which is what I was looking for. The person who gave the tour was very knowledgeable and very caring and very, very open to looking at different types of units that might be more suitable for me, and just willing to work with me. The apartments were all new. So, it was a very, very updated, very modern headquarters. It was just the arrangement and everything was nice. Everybody had a washer and dryer. There were lots of amenities, yoga, exercise classes, games, and social events very much geared to the age of 55 and up."

"We have chosen The Homestead at Rochester. We thought it was a very nice community. We were very pleased with the responsiveness of the people there. The marketing director was very, very accommodating to us as far as making appointments. She also took a second tour with our children, and we appreciated that. It seems to be a very busy community. There are lots of activities there, and there are lots of public spaces where you can sit or you can use the room if you want to. We thought that was very nice. As far as the meals, they have a continental breakfast every day. That's complimentary. The units themselves are very nice and clean. They're all very well kept up. The whole place is very well kept, and the units are very clean. They're as spacious as you can get in a place like that. They seem to be adequate as far as the space that you need to live in. There are many, many places around the community where you can go and sit and socialize or you can go and sit and read or whatever you want to do. I compared it to being on a cruise ship. Your cabin on a cruise ship is not very big, but there are lots of places you can go and things you can do, so I thought, this is about the same way. There are different several units to choose from. They have one-bedroom and two-bedroom, so it is very nice. We have an option there as far as what unit we wanted to be in."

"Crest View Villa was very nice. It's an older community and the apartments are smaller, but it’s probably $1,500 a month cheaper, too. The staff was very friendly, accommodating, and answered all the questions that we had."

"Cedars of Austin is a caring and well-staffed community. They have senior living, assisted living, and memory facilities as well. It's a very nice place. The personnel and staff are very excellent and caring and when anything happens, they contact me immediately and let me know what transpired. It's well-run, and it's like a small city within a city. They have their own 24/7 nursing staff, facilities, and features a salon, and a multitude of things that the residents can do. They own their own shuttle bus so residents can travel and go places for a meal or see an event, or to go shopping. It's great as far as keeping people active and involved. My mother is happy there. The check-in process went very well and it was easy to do. The staff was there to help us move stuff into her apartment when we got there. Everything was taken care of. Their dining room is like a very posh restaurant and the cook is a master chef and very personable. He knows all the residents by name and what they like or don't like, it's just amazing. The building is comfortable and feels like home to anybody from the moment you walk in. Price-wise, they're comparable to the other places we've looked at, which were nothing but glorified nursing homes."
