My dad is at the Life Care Center in Kona. They're very efficient. They call me with updates every now and then. He loves it there. The facilities are good. For assisted living that needs a full service, it's a good facility. I like it. They do bingo, people go in and they have music, and they did a concert for them. They have daily activities, and he likes that. They have board games and puzzles, and they've got people there doing all of that with them. He does not like the food so much. He said there is no taste, but it is his diet. He has a very restrictive diet, low sugar, low carbs, low fat, so the food is pretty bland for him. It is because his health is not the greatest. We've got a special thing going on because Medicare is paying for it; so value for money is good. What he loves about it too, is that it is a one-story building, but they've got beautiful views of the ocean. They're really good and so caring. It's an older building, but it's clean and nice. They've got this beautiful patio, and their ocean view is just to die for.

We toured Life Care Center of Kona. They have shared rooms and half of the room has a window that's looking out and it has an ocean view, which is nice. I thought that would be great for my mom. She could look out because she likes nature and she was an outdoor kind of person. People can get out of the building in wheelchairs on their own and they had a little garden there. It's a nice spot. It has a good location. Other than that, I can't say anything because they never got back to me after I talked to them and they said they would get a hold of me. I can't say anything else about the facility other than it's a nice spot. I definitely would consider it. It's kind of expensive, but I thought I could at least try it for respite for my mom for a little while. It was clean, but I have no idea what kind of care they give since my mom hasn't been in there. I only talked to one person. She was nice, but she never got back to me, so I don't know. I called so many times, nobody ever got back to me. It looked fine to me on the inside, but if they don't communicate with you, what good is it then? The admissions girl gave me a tour and showed me the rooms and the surroundings. She said she would get back to me and that never happened. The structure was nice.

Life Care Center of Kona is a very clean, very friendly, and very nice place. My friend really likes it. The room is very clean and nice. It is not private because there are two people to a room. There are no apartments, too. Usually the people that go there can't help themselves very much. My friend went there after a stroke. The staff seems very friendly and helpful. They have lots of activities, too.

My mom is in this facility right now (5/1/15). This has to be the worst facility ever! They leave you alone for hours even after you buzz for assistance. My mom had to use the bathroom and ended up peeing on herself twice before someone came to help. They have never had anyone with back injury so they didn't even know how to care for her. Most had to get retrained just to learn how to help her up. Last Wednesday I had to help her take off her shorts (they had put her to bed fully clothed in day wear). After 5 days they finally bathed her only to put her back in the same dress as she was wearing the day before. I had to (not that I minded - she's my mom), change her clothes, put her night gown on, pull her up on the bed, prop her so she would be comfortable and straighten out her sheets. Some nurses watched but never bothered to ask if I needed help. Now today after she finished using the bathroom, the nurse let her fall! Yes that's right fall. Ok, my mom is recovering from back surgery so yes she is not able to stand quite yet - she's 76 years and needs assistance... but that gal let her fall. She was a tiny person who had no business trying to assist by herself and instead of asking for help, let my mom fall on the tile floor. I don't the extent of her injuries just yet but will have a doctor look at her. Oh by the way this is only day 5 and my mom's roommate is going through the same torture. In summary, if you can help it, stay at home. Unfortunately we have a 2 story house with a tub...
