I recently visited Heritage Inn of Barnesville with my son and other members of the 4-H club from his school. Upon our arrival I immediately noticed that most of the residents seemed to be fairly happy and I was surprised that I did not see any residents that suffered from Alzheimers or dementia, like I have witnessed when visiting other nursing homes. I was there for only a short while when I realized the reason for this was because the facility has a separate unit for Alzheimers patients. Out of curiosity I decided to walk over to the alzheimers wing. Although the staff seemed to be handling the residents with the upmost respect and the best care they could possibly provide, the unit was extremely chaotic and loud. The residents were confused and many of them were agitated and angry. It definitely takes a special person to be able to effectively perform his job in an environment such as this and keep a positive attitude. The nurses were very professional and I could tell that this was not a professionalism brought on by the fact that a visitor was watching. It was genuine. I only feel that there should have been more housekeeping staff dedicated to this wing because, as I learned , demented residents can be very messy and disorderly at times. As a whole the nursing home seemed to be doing a good job taking care of the residents there. The place was fairly clean and the staff was welcoming and professional.

My wife required rehab following cancer surgery. Heritage (not our first choice) had an opening and she admitted. She has called home several times to ask I call the facility to get her help as there was no response to her calls. Simple food request (tomato soup) was not available. She needed Ensure, I will be supplying that also as they do not stock it. I do not feel adequate care is being given in a timely manner and will look elsewhere if the need arises for further care. I am not pleased with the facility and do not recommend it to others.

My good friend of over 60 years was released from the hospital and needed rehabilitation to regain muscle strength. This facility, being close to her home was chosen for rehabilitation. Within a week of working with her physical therapist, she tested positive for Covid-19 sending her into lockdown unable to have visitors, flowers or anything to cheer her up. Her care was so bad during her stay that she was sent back to the hospital as she was very close to being in a diabetic coma. She is back in the care of this facility and continues to receive poor care, experiencing lack of response to requests for help for hours at a time. Her husband is doing his best to fight for better care but is not always able to speak to her. Her mobile phone is set aside outside of her reach. She is totally isolated and at their mercy. The facility claims to be short handed and cannot respond to every request in a timely manner. I ask you, is this how you want your loved one treated? Would you want to be treated this way?
