"The Mennonite Village has been running for 60 plus years. I recently visited my Grandmother who lives in the full care home. The campus is split into assisted-care and a full care nursing home. Many of the homes are like cottages and purchased by the residents. They have call buttons in their homes they can push if they need assistance. The grounds are kept up by a large maintenance crew. All the shrubs and trees are pruned to the finest detail. Thousands of beautiful flowers are also on the menu for your eyes to feast on. You will find beautiful fountains running throughout the grounds on the campus also. The campus is split into two sides, Quail Run and Mennonite Home. Both have dining areas for all residents. They serve 3 meals per day for residents and visitors at set times throughout the day. They also have a traditional restaurant on the Mennonite home side where you can get food to order, like any other restaurant. The staff are super friendly and well qualified. From food to a hair salon they really have it all! "

"We went over to Boone Ridge for dinner. It's an independent facility, which was built a couple of years ago, and they had most of the modern amenities. They had assisted and memory care as well. We went to the second floor where they had an entertainment area and a television lounge where they show movies. They had a chef, a choux chef, and a pastry chef. The food was very sumptuous and restaurant quality. It's an excellent facility."

"My husband and I visited Capitol Manor last month. His Auntie, who is partly disabled, wants to move to a retirement home because it's too difficult for her to manage her home by herself any more and her kids are worthless when it comes to helping her with anything. So we told her we'd shop around for her and then let her know what we thought of the places around the Salem area. Capitol Manor was nice and she liked it the best, so she'll be moving there soon. It's been here a while and has a good reputation in the community. There were lots of activities for older adults and we were told that there were little "mini-groups" of friends within the community that got together to enjoy crafts together, like carving or quilting. Auntie is too much of a recluse and so we thought that would be good for her. It's in her affordability range, too, which was a big issue. She hates to cook for just herself so it's nice that meals are served here. With Auntie in a retirement home we will worry less about her. We are afraid her worthless kids will completely forget about her now that she'll be in what they call "old people storage" but we and others in her family do still care about the old darling and it will be nice to visit her here, knowing she'll have folks looking out for her and new friends to keep her interested in life. "

"Marian Estates was a very nice facility. I had a meal there, and it was very good. The staff was accommodating and the units were very spacious. The grounds were beautiful. Everybody seemed very warm and friendly there. It's much more affordable than the other place we looked at."

"The Woods at Willowcreek was very clean and the people were very nice. It tends to be more for memory care. The residents were in the gathering area and people were coming in and out, picking up an orange or an apple, or going out to sit on the deck with friends. It had a very friendly and homey atmosphere. The grounds were gorgeous. They had maintenance people clipping hedges, cleaning, and getting ready for the summer. The location was good, it was easy to find. It's close to a shopping area if you want to go to the store. The lady I spoke to was amazing. She was very knowledgeable about what they could and could not do, which was wonderful."
