"The worker to resident ration seemed appropriate. There were many friendly staffers, many of whom knew my relative by name, and knew who were relatives of him when we visited. This facility had a very personable atmosphere where the residents could get together for scheduled events and field trips. "

"Rockwood South Hill was a very nice community. Their facilities were very nice. There were many friendly people. The rooms were nice. The dementia units have their own showers, which was a nice plus. The residents can take a shower when they want to rather than having to wait for an aide to take them to the shower room. They had a medical van that rotated people to doctor's appointments, etc. Their transportation would take people out on outings and drive them around town just to look at different neighborhood just to get out. They had painting classes and some cooking. Rockwood South Hill would be a 5 if they could handle all facets of dementia but they can't. My husband was there because he had a broken tailbone and bladder infection at the time, so it wasn't necessarily memory care, but it was more medical."

"We visited Riverview. It was a good place, but it was just expensive. The rooms and the dining area were fine. As far as their activities go, I do not know as I did not pay any attention to them. "

"Rockwood Retirement Community is a fabulous place. It's spotless and there are no smells. It's a private home and the owners live on site. The care is exceptional. My mother has a bright and sunny room. The staff is very gentle and very kind. "

"I like Fairwood Retirement Village & Assisted Living, although it is an older facility. When people move out, they would remodel the room, and I looked at a couple of them. I liked the way the ground floor apartments were set up. A lot of them have little outdoor patios and those types of things where you can let your dog right off the patio and right out into the center grass area. I like that way better than the idea of a dog park. However, you got to buy in for the one bedroom, and I did not want to go for that at all. You get 75% of it back if you leave, but if you do not leave or if you die there, you do not get anything. You gotta put $106,000 right upfront. If you want to get a bigger place, you have to put up even more cash money. The facility is fine, just not particularly the way they do business. The lady was very nice too. They have an activities board posted outside of their office where it says they do cards and all that sort of things."
