The Best Assisted Living Communities in Marion County, MS

"I enjoyed my tour of Brookdale Hattiesburg. The young lady that took us on the tour was one of the managers, and she was very helpful. She showed us the type of apartment that we were interested in and introduced us around to various managers and individuals, and showed us the amenities that we would have. The place was very clean, and the people seemed satisfied and happy with where they were. I didn't notice anything that's out of place there at all. I'm familiar with Brookdale because my son at one time worked there, so I know what goes on a little bit behind the scenes. I was not unhappy with my tour at all. I concluded from the tour more than anything else that I'm not quite ready. I certainly had no fault to find with it. I was looking more at independent living. I have no need for assistance. It's my husband who might have a need for assistance and I do most of the assisting for him. I realize that at Brookdale, we could get the amount of assistance that we wanted and still have our independence if we wanted that also. That's what I liked about it. I thought it would meet those needs if we made that decision, that I would be able to live as independently as I wanted to. They are mostly an assisted living place and I realized that. But what I also wanted in a place is not only assistance when I need it for my husband, but I could live independently and have a car, and come and go as I please. And they seem to be willing to accommodate that. I looked at a 1-bedroom apartment. It had a living room, a nice bathroom, a huge bedroom, and a small kitchen area. You're not able to cook, but they had a little refrigerator and a sink and stuff where you could make a bowl of cereal. They had a variety of rooms. I was only interested in the 1-bedroom, but they also had 2-bedroom apartments that they would let you look at, and they also had studios. The staff was very accommodating and the facility was very pleasant. "

"Bellevue Assisted Living is my first choice. It's a great place and it would be the most appropriate for my mother. They have very friendly staff and very happy residents. It's very clean, very bright, and uplifting. I liked everything about it. The rooms were spacious, very up-to-date, and very appropriate for seniors. It's got a wonderful location with nice surroundings. The hair salon that was provided inside the facility was also very reasonably priced. They have personal visits from practitioners for any residents needing it, I was impressed with the size. It's not too big and not too small. I liked the arrangement and the floor plan of the place as well."

"I am more than happy with Alden Pointe. My daughter's been there since 2005. I go there twice or three times a week. Everything is lovely. It's not too big, the food is wonderful, and they have activities. She has a private bath, computer, everything she wants in her apartment. Every morning she goes to a religious service and she happens to love that. She can have her nails done, she can go to a hairdresser, they can go shopping, they've got bingo and other stuff. Every month they have a calendar for what they have to do. As far as the food goes, she can have coffee anytime she wants it, they have desserts for everything, and they have parties. They have a nurse on duty 24 hours a day and they have aides and everything. It's a very nice place. I've been recommending them. There are some people over there that I've recommended. "

"I found Windham House of Hattiesburg for my husband. Right now, he's in therapy. It's very good. I'm very pleased with them. The patients seem very happy. The food is good which means a lot to my husband. It's just a very warm place. The staff is very caring. You can tell they care about each patient. It's an older facility, so they're not new rooms but they are very clean and very spacious. Upkeep and maintenance seem good. It's an older building and you can tell there's been wear and tear on it, but it's well kept. They dine in the room a lot of the time. He is still dining in his room more than out. He's not a real social person. They're working on it, but they haven't gotten there yet. As far as I can tell, it's worth the money."

"The facilities were very nice. The rooms were pretty spacious, and they all had their private baths. They have a variety of layouts for the rooms, so you could have a one-bedroom, a studio, or a two-bedroom. The staff was very good. I didn't get to taste the food, but the dining area looked very nice. The facilities were well laid out. They explained that they had a nurse practitioner on call, and he was affiliated with the VA, so it's a very VA-friendly facility, which was important for my parents. I just was very impressed. They have a little snack area that is open for everybody. I had a little snack, but I didn't get to taste the main meal."

"The Claiborne at Hattiesburg was a very nice facility. The people were nice. They had individual rooms and it was very clean. They had a lot stuff there for the people that stay in the facility. They had a parlor, and there were quite a few ladies getting their hair done. They had a place for ice cream socials, and the cafeteria looked spacious and nice."
