"My mom is a resident of GreenTree at Mt. Vernon. All the workers and everything are very good. They do stuff with them. They keep them busy. They work with them, and my mom likes it there. What most people don't like is the price. It's very expensive. They only take cash there. They don't want your house. They don't want your land or anything like that, which many people don't want to give up because they have children to pass it to for any reason. It doesn't matter what the reason is. They only accept cash or checks. Her apartment is good. She had one up close to the dining room, and it was for two people, but she was the only one in it, which was available then. Then they moved her down the hall to another double room, and there was nobody else in that room either. But after they moved her, she couldn't find her room anymore. So, she just started sleeping in the common room, which is the room where they all meet and watch TV, and play little games and stuff like that. So, most of the time she's been there, and she's not even slept in a room. She has slept on the couch because there are multiple couches in there, but she's not the only one who does that. There are other ones that like to sleep on the couch. The food is very good. They get snacks, lemonade, or other things, which are always on the counter. The able ones can get it themselves. It's right in one of the little dining rooms. There's no stove or anything right there. They keep it. They bring it in from another part of the building. It always looks good, and she enjoys it. When somebody's got dementia, they can act out a little bit at times. They get argumentative, and there are a few people there who don't seem to tolerate it as well. They'd just go ahead and put them in their room and move them away from other people, or they'll take them outside or try to give them a one-on-one, which is a good thing. But it just happens with dementia. But overall, they're good. They take them places, do things with them, and take them outside on pretty days."

"My friend is at Brookstone Estates of Fairfield and is doing very well. I am just totally impressed with the caring atmosphere and the cleanliness. All of my friend's needs are taken care of right there. He doesn't have to leave that facility to live. He has a vehicle, and he chooses to go to Walmart and that type of thing, just because, but it's all inclusive. It's a good place. I understand why it's rated five-stars. My friend does the crafts, and they also have a couple of residents that have started a church service on Sunday, and he doesn't miss those. There is a library. They have a courtyard, which is very nice. That's why my friend chose a two-bedroom apartment, because his door opened out into this beautiful courtyard house, and that's what he sees when he's sitting in his living room instead of just a wall. I thought that was really nice. I have a couple of other church friends who are there that I routinely visit when I see my friend as well. I always brag to them how nice it is. People are friendly. The residents that are out in the main area visiting one another and always seem happy. The cafeteria is pleasant. I really think they go out of the way to try to make it a really good assisted living facility."

"Because it was a brand new facility, I have absolutely complaints about the building. It was always clean, smelled nicely (which is rare in homes like this, from my experience), everything worked, etc. The best part was that the staff actually seemed to care about the residents living there. They would tell stories of conversations with him, games they'd play, or how he liked the ladies. Often times if he wasn't in his room, we could easily ask any staff member walking by if they'd seen him, and they'd point us in his direction. Seeing them pay attention to what was going on around them and that it wasn't just a job made me feel comfortable having a family member staying there. They were always very accommodating, too. One year for his birthday, I was actually able to coordinate a surprise visit with him during an outing they were having. They brought me onto the bus to visit and have ice cream with him and everything. I'm so glad it wasn't a nursing home and not everything was locked down constantly, because I was able to still create memories with him via them without worrying about his safety constantly. "
