"The experiences with this facility were varied, usually based on which shift we visited, in other words the staff present at the time. Overall the level of care provided by the nurses and doctors was acceptable. The main issue came in with the lower level nurses and CNAs. The LPNs seemed quite miffed if you dared bother them with any question, serious or benign. And the CNAs varied from the most gentle, loving caregivers to the most hateful ones, who barely wanted a job, just a paycheck. But overall the care was mostly positive. The only thing is I wish that the directors would take more interest in the actual running of the facility in order to gain more appropriate employees. "

"The best thing I liked about Des Arc Nursing & Rehabilitation Center was that they have two secure units, one for the men and one for the women. That to me was very important. The people were very friendly and they fixed homestyle food. The grounds were nice and the inside was very nice as well. It kind of reminds me a little bit of a country home. It's got a big seating area outside for the residents and rocking chairs. It's like a Southern front porch. It's about 30 miles from our home, which was much closer, and that would have been my choice for my husband had they had an opening. It's a very nice facility. The woman who actually does the admissions was not available to show me around, but one of her staff did, and that young woman was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. It was just a nice visit. I felt really good about it. It was clean. It didn't smell and the residents looked well cared for."

"My wife will be moving to Chambers Health & Rehab and the main reason that I chose it is because there are familiar faces there that she already knows and I thought that outweighed a place where she walked into and stayed and didn't know a single person and nobody looked familiar. She has aphasia and she can't talk. She can't meet people. She can't have a conversation. So I picked a place here in town, because of familiar faces and people that she recognizes. I talked with the person in charge of the meeting and she covered what kind of people would my wife want a room with, what would be her interests, what she could do, and what she liked to do. As we went through those things, my wife couldn't do anything because the reasoning in her mind didn't work and she couldn't write on her right hand. She doesn't understand instructions. So, there's not a lot of games that she could play on her own. She would have to be led. They told me they could have somebody sit with her and do it for her. They said that they would look after her and try to include her and if they needed to feed her, they would, and some things basically to make her feel like she was part of something while she was there. You can either have a private room or a semi-private room. It's a nursing home with health and rehab. So, they have rehab there, too. The layout is pretty simple to get around. They have locked doors with a code to get in or to get out and so it is a secure place where they can't just get out. I just don't know what to compare it with."
