"My Grandmother is a resident at Sunrise and has been since early last year. Though she misses being able to live at home she is content with her living arrangement at Sunrise. They paired her with a room mate that she enjoys sharing her days with. They take good care of her and meet her medical needs. She has a nurse that has been assigned to her and over seeing her medical condition. She enjoys all the themed holiday meals they provide her as she is no longer able to travel outside the facility to join us for family holiday meals. One of her favorite things they provide are the "movie nights" for all the residents. She loves to watch tv and enjoys the community room where they all gather to watch movies together. The cost associated with care at this facility versus having an in home care nurse is comparable. Though she does complain that the cost to her is double that of her former living expenses , which it is at $7000.00 per month. She is receiving far better care than she would have at home. They see to it that she is transported to and from her doctors appointments 45 minutes away in Anchorage which is also a benefit to her in many ways. Previously she had to rely on her caregiver to show up (not always a given) and get her there on time and back home again. Now, she makes it to her scheduled appointments without issue. When we met with the administrator (Paula is her first name) to determine if this was the best facility for Grandma, she was very helpful and took the time to answer all of our questions to help us determine if this was the best "fit" for her and her health, and medical needs. The entire facility is very well maintained, clean, and has a positive atmosphere. Which is consistent with our first impression when we first toured the facility. It has been a little over a year now and the facility has maintained a consistent standard of care for her. I think it was a good choice. Her nurses and care providers are all very cheerful and know us all by name when we come in to visit her now. I have never seen anything that I could report as a "negative." She has had minor issues that were all resolved to her satisfaction, but they were not issues directly related to the staff, at Sunrise. These were all creature comfort requests for things she wanted in her room when she was first settling in and was unhappy until she received them. Which is understandable, she missed her independence and her home. I honestly don't have anything negative to say about Sunrise as an assisted living facility. I have in fact, recommended it to several close friends with aging parents. "

"My mom was in this facility for 2 years and I was comfortable with the care she and the other residents were given. She had been in another assisted living home and ended up in the hospital every other month because she was not receiving her medications correctly. This NEVER happened at Colony Manor Creekside. In the 3 1/2 years in the Colony Manor facilities, she ended up in the hospital once and it did not have anything to do with the care she was given. I highly recommend the Colony Manor Assisted Living Homes! "

"After dad died I wanted to take care of mom so we arranged her stay at Colony Manor in Wasilla Alaska. Ideally it would have been nice if dad was still around to keep mom company but life does not turn out the way we expect sometimes. But Colony Manor is a place where mom can be around people her age. This may be the best alternative. "

"I have toured the Primrose Retirement Community of Wasilla. It seems very attractive and very inviting, I liked it a lot. The staff I met there was great. They were accommodating and very helpful. The room was not spacious, but it was large enough to accommodate a queen-sized bed. It was bright, cheerful, very clean, and it was attractive. I didn't try the food but it looked very inviting. They had an ice cream parlor, a game room, they have a TV room, a beauty parlor, a restaurant or cafeteria, and there's a social area. The upkeep is very good."

"I toured Keen Eye Assisted Living Inc.. I didn't like the location. What I did like though was the lady who was very nice. She was informative about assisted living care, and she knew the area and what services were available. She was welcoming, too. We went into the possible room that my mom would be staying in. It's a basic bedroom. You have accommodation to a medical bed. They had equipment there if needed. The staff I met was very nice, very informative, welcoming, and understanding of the situation. The place looked OK. It looked clean."

"Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center is a clean place. It's all on one floor and it's a ground floor and they have good care. They also have an adult day center there at one end of the assisted living place so that seniors can go in there during the day and socialize with other seniors. They have puzzles, they give them snacks, and you can pay for lunch, so they have lunch. My mom has been going there during the day while my sister goes back to work, and I like that place. If she gets in the assisted living she'll have her own room, and she won't really need to go there, but if she wants to, she can. It's just walking down to the end of the hall, then there's double doors, and she can just go in there. My sister is going back to work and so she can't be home with my mom. We've taken my mom out of a bad situation. She was living alone, she was a hoarder, and she had 30 cats. So right now, she's staying with my sister and sleeping on their living room floor until we get her into one of these places. My sister's going, "I can't do this forever. This is hard. I want to go back to my job. I don't want to retire early." So that's why we've been taking her to the daycare center at Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center, so that she spends her days there and she's around other adults. There are magazines to read, puzzles to do, activities and snacks. It's a good place; it's a safe place. There are adults that work there so that if something goes wrong they're there to help her. I'm impressed with the place. They've got the normal senior center apartment, and then they've got the area where they have assisted living where the older people have need of care. Like they have need of somebody following up on them, making sure they go to the bathroom, helping them and assisting them there with bath. Some of them need help feeding them. Luckily, my mom doesn't need that. We have been using them for adult day care for my mom. They have like decks of cards or puzzles, and there's a TV in there. It's a nice big room, and then they've got round tables and chairs around them. When it's lunch time they have lunch in there, and they add it to the cost. They have common areas. Outside, out back, they have an area where they have chairs and stuff, and in the summer you've got some woods behind the place, so it's very pleasant. I'm impressed with it; I like it. The staff have all been really courteous to me. They ask the right questions. They don't try to get your hopes up and say, "Oh, we'll get right back with you right away." They're honest with you. "Okay, should I give the down payment now?" "No. Wait until you get the Medicaid waiver, and we'll tell you when we need it," because I'm ready to go now. But there's a process to go through. They've been courteous. They've been good about it."
