The Panhandle Area Agency on Aging advocates for residents ages 60 and older in Moore County and 25 surrounding counties. This AAA plans and coordinates programs that support independence and enhance the quality of life for seniors aging at home. Services include information, benefits counseling, personal care assistance, homemaker services and home-delivered meals. Elders can also access assistance with caregiver support, transportation, minor home repairs, legal aid and referrals to other senior resources.

Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) Region 1

The Texas DADS Region 1 office coordinates care programs for older adults and their caregivers in Moore County and the surrounding areas. Services include light chores, personal care, in-home health care, respite care and caregiver support. Participation is subject to eligibility requirements.

Dumas Meals on Wheels delivers hot, healthy meals to homebound elderly Sunray residents who can’t prepare their own food. Volunteers bring meals to participants five days each week, including holidays, regardless of the weather. Dumas Meals on Wheels can accommodate special dietary requests prescribed by a senior’s doctor.

Panhandle Community Services administers the Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program for low-income residents of Sunray and other Panhandle communities. This program can cover up to six monthly utility payments per year. In emergency cases, qualifying households can have portable heating or cooling units installed or repaired. Clients can also receive budget counseling and guidance with energy conservation.

Seniors may also benefit from the Adult Eye Care Program, which coordinates free professional optometric and ophthalmologic care including prescriptions and eyeglasses.
