"My grandmother was a patient in home setting prior to the end of her life and near the end she was admitted to a nursing home. While at home in September she was admitted to Allen respite care for a week. As a result of different surroundings she began to fight and haldol was administered. She was 99 and ambulatory prior to respite. She never walked again after respite and quickly went downhill. In the nursing home morphine was given which causes constipation particularly for bedridden patients. The hospice nurse scheduled laxative therapy prn told the family she would schedule it because the patient would benefit more from having it scheduled and this was never done! My grandmother passed at the nursing facility November 2, 2012! "
