Kaiser’s health care plan does not cover assisted living services. If you have Kaiser Permanente health insurance, you’ll need to purchase a separate long-term care insurance policy if you want coverage for assisted living.

Does Medicare cover assisted living services?

Medicare does not cover assisted living services or other forms of long-term care. If you qualify for Medicaid, however, look into whether your state has a Medicaid waiver program to pay for assisted living. Eligible individuals meet their state’s income and asset requirements as well as other qualifications. The details of waiver programs, such as the monthly benefit amount, vary by state.

How do families pay for assisted living?

Families use a variety of options to pay for assisted living. In addition to obtaining Medicaid waivers where available, many people purchase private long-term care insurance, cash out or sell their life insurance policies or take out reverse mortgages.

What factors affect the cost of assisted living?

Factors that affect the cost of assisted living include the size of your home or apartment, the amenities at the assisted living community and the overall cost of living in your geographic location. The level of care you need also plays a role in assisted living expenses. The facility’s team will create a care plan that includes medical diagnoses and treatments, as well as services such as help with managing medications, bathing and grooming.
