With her work at Caring, Rachel hopes to help other families find communities, caregivers, and at-home products that benefit elderly loved ones and make life less stressful for family caregivers

The dimensions of an American Standard walk-in tub vary, but typically range between 48″ and 60″ long, and between 30″ and 32″ wide. Walk-in tubs don’t usually differ too much dimensionally, since they are designed to fit into a space that is standardized in most homes as 30-32″ wide by 60″ long.

A walk-in tub can make it easier for mobility-impaired seniors to maintain a regular bathing routine. Designed with simplicity in mind, walk-in tubs feature side doors that open either inward or outward and have low entry lips that let seniors walk into the tub.

Ensure You Have Enough Room for an American Standard Walk-In Tub

Most homes use standard construction for standard showers or bathtubs. Replacing their home’s bathtub with a walk-in tub from American Standard requires a call to arrange an in-home evaluation. Installers come out to the home and measure the space that the current tub occupies in order to determine whether the bathroom space requires any modifications before a walk-in tub can be installed.

The standard home includes a 30-32 inch wide and 60-inch-long bathtub space. The tub’s height isn’t as important to the installation as its length or width unless the home has shelving or fixtures installed above the current bathtub. American Standard’s smallest walk-in tub is 28 inches wide and 48 inches long, a foot shorter than the standardized tub size. Fortunately, American Standard installations include bathtub extender kits as part of their product line. These extenders fill that space that remains when a shorter walk-in tub replaces a standard-sized bathtub.

Specialized American Standard Walk-In Tubs

American Standard has a large variety of walk-in tubs. From no-frill soaking tubs to luxurious air spas and whirlpool walk-in tubs with up to 13 air jets and 26 water jets that massage aching muscles and help improve circulation. Specialized tubs such as bariatric walk-in tubs usually feature the same dimensions as standard walk-in tubs but offer wider seats and entryways to allow bariatric patients easier access and a more comfortable place to sit while bathing.
