I visited this facility

I visited the independent living community of The Woodland in Farmville. The main facility looked pretty promising. It was nice and organized, and the few people I met just walking down the aisles seemed to be pretty happy. The independent section of it looks like it's got some age on it, but they look like they do a pretty good routine upgrading it. I looked into a 1-bedroom and a 2-bedroom apartment, and they were kind of small to me, but not terribly so, more like apartment size. The person who accommodated me during the tour seemed to be very friendly, very helpful, and answered my questions. I didn't feel like he was holding anything back and was forthright. They had some functions there that I probably wouldn't participate in. I was looking for maybe some kind of historical organizations, or interest organizations, like people who like to go to art museums or something like that. They didn't appear to have those. They provide lunches for the independent living Monday through Friday, I believe, but that particular day, something else was going on, and they weren't going to provide food there. The dining room was just a room with tables and chairs, but I don't know what the food's like. There are a few things I would like to have seen, but they're not there.

I visited this facility

I toured The Woodland. What I liked best was the staff, very friendly, and very open. Their community layout, like the furniture, was modern. It was a very modern facility. It didn't look like a nursing home. It didn't have that look and it didn't have that feel. You look like you're walking into an apartment building that was laid out and it was nice. The staff was very polite, understanding, compassionate, friendly, and professional. The size of the room was very adequate.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is at The Woodland. The best thing for me is that it's close by and I can be her patient advocate because I see her every day. The rooms are not that great, but they serve their purpose. If you're involved in your loved ones' care there, they can get very good care. I think it's getting better, too. Some of the people that work there are very caring and loving. I feel like my mom is being taken care of. They don't just leave them without helping them eat, they come pretty quickly when you call, and everybody is always willing to help. I like it. It doesn't look that great, but they do a good job there. Some of the staff members are very good and some of them are a little on the lazy side, but if you ask them a question or ask for their assistance, they will respond right away. As for the food, nutrition-wise, it's very well. For activities, they have bingo, movies, nice little places you can go to dine, and an activities room where they can paint, do puzzles, crafts, and things like that. They have a clergy come by, and they have a place you can go to be alone if you want to.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I liked The Woodland. There were a lot of people helping the residents out. My sister-in-law ended up there in rehab after we saw it and she did not like that because they didn't have enough help, like a lot of places don't have enough help. She said she had to call and call and people didn't show up a lot of times, but on the interview itself, when I saw the assisted living, I thought it was a good place. It was nice and clean. They had food and the clients seemed to be enjoying it, but that was the assisted living, so they didn't need as much help as you would need when you are in rehab. The staff was very nice. They knew what they were talking about. They answered all our questions. I enjoyed speaking to them. There was some confusion because they didn't know we were coming. We had it scheduled, but eventually, they saw us. The staff was very friendly. She showed us different rooms. The private rooms were laid out well, but some were bigger than others. They all had their own bathroom.

I visited this facility

Our tour of The Woodland was very good. We liked it. We felt it was a little bit expensive for the area, but other than that, it was very good. The staff who gave the tour was very good. The room was very spacious, clean, and nice. We want something that's one floor, everything was on the ground floor. They serve meals, you have your own washer and dryer, stove, refrigerator, and microwave.

We visited a friend at The Woodland. I saw a number of residents outside and they seemed very happy. They also spoke to us as we went by. The staff was very friendly. The receptionist was extremely friendly as well and showed us where to go. Everything there seemed good and I was very impressed with the facility.
