We toured Eugene H. Bloom Retirement Center, and the woman who gave us a tour was nice. The facility was nice. The residents that we saw and spoke to a couple seemed happy. They do the meals and your laundry, and it's an extra fee to get your laundry done. They said the residents are free to leave if they want to go to their families for the weekend. They give them their pills that they need for the weekend, and come back. We saw a single room, and they showed us one with two people. They had a room that I called a waiting room with four or six beds in it. That was way cheaper, but I think the people there were waiting for another room to open. They answered every question we had, and when we got to the financial part, we couldn't do it because it cost too much, but it was very well explained. They did a very good job explaining everything, showing the dining area and several different rooms, game rooms, and social rooms. There were several of those rooms and different ones to choose from and visit. The location was nice, very clean, and well-kept on the outside. I love the place. We just couldn't afford it. They have a really nice backyard. It has some benches and some neighborhood cats that come up, and the Humane Society comes over and feeds and takes care of the cats. They're all spayed. They come and feed them, and the residents sit out there and hold them. There's a lot of big shade trees out there, and it's got a screened-in back porch.

I toured Eugene H. Bloom Retirement Center. What I liked best were the people, the staff, and the cleanliness. What I liked least, which I think is probably a common challenge for all locations, was having wheelchairs in the hallway, like empty wheelchairs just kind of sitting around, just didn't make it feel right. As for the vacant rooms, they might be vacant for a reason, but they are still being shown. The bathroom areas of these rooms need a more thorough cleaning, even though it's vacant. The size of the rooms was good. The layout is basic, but it is still a pretty-sized room and more convenient. The staff was very professional, polite, compassionate, and understanding.

My mother has moved into Eugene H. Bloom Retirement Center. It's a nice place. We chose it because it's convenient. It's in the town where she lives and she knows a lot of people staying there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have TV, crafts and stuff like that, and a hair salon.

My grandfather is currently living at the Bloom Center and I visit him whenever I'm in the area. It's located on a nice, quiet side street with little traffic to worry about when going on a stroll. It's a single story building, with a multiple entrances and some screened in porch areas on the wings. Overall it's always clean, quiet, and seems well run.The staff knows my grandpa by name and remembers us when we come to visit. That's a nice touch. They have some trips and excursions he can go on, though he's more of a loner. They have done a great job keeping him on his medications. That's a very big deal and was a problem at a couple of other places. His room is fairly large, plenty large for a single person. It's always clean and nothing has gone "missing". He has cable TV and a nice size window. The temperature is always nice in there even on hot & humid Virginia days.I haven't tried the food, but he seems content with it. He does say it gets monotonous though.Overall we are pleased with the facility. It's not a 5 star resort, but he's treated well and with respect.

I am impressed with this facility for several reasons. My grandmother suffers from alzhimers and cant hear much at all. She is very well taken care of. She is always clean and the staff takes time with her. They hug on her and play with her. She is very playful as her only form of communication is through facial expressions and laughter. The facility itself always seems clean and does not have that "nursing home smell". I have attended events there at Christmas and Mother's Day. They really try to show how much they care for the residents there. I feel my grandmother is well taken care of there and do not worry that our family cannot visit her every day.
