I visited this facility

I visited Autumn Wind Senior Living for independent living. It's conveniently located. The tour went as well as can be expected. Everything's located on the same level. It's all one story, which I like. They had accommodations where you could put a small fence out for pets. They had doors that opened onto a grassy area, and people put up little fences out there where they could let their little dog or their little cat go outside. The staff was very nice and very friendly. The negative things are that they seem to be heavily biased toward assisted living. The independent living area seems to be sort of on its own. There doesn't seem to be as much going on with them. They had a long list of activities, which everybody is welcome to participate in. Someone was singing in the clubhouse when I left. It looked like there was interaction, but there seemed to be less involvement in independent living with the staff. I didn't see a lot of people out moving around. They have garages, which is nice. They have visitor parking so that you can park in your garage, and someone can park next to your garage off the street. I did not see a lot of security, but it's Winnsboro, so I don't think it's a high-crime area. General maintenance was very good. I had no concerns about the living conditions or anything like that. Everything was very nice. I toured a two-bedroom apartment, and they were in the process of cleaning it because people had moved out. They told me they don't have any vacancies and there is a waiting list. For an independent living community, it was not quite as good as I would have liked. The rates were very reasonable and cover all your utilities except for your phone. They serve three meals a day, but your rent only covers one. There's a fee for the other two meals if you want to eat those meals with them. All the apartments have a kitchen, but no microwaves. Overall, I was pleased with the place. I put my name on the waiting list. It's also good to know that they don't have a high turnover. They covered everything I wanted to know. They gave me a very nice pamphlet with a lot of information. They were very cooperative. They didn't seem to be withholding any information. I only really met one person other than the person I talked to when I came in. Everything was clean except for the apartment, which they were in the process of cleaning. I didn't see anything that was unusual. I saw what I would consider to be normal cleanup, and the ladies were in there working. Cleanliness was good. Yard maintenance seemed to be pretty good. The building we went into was clean, and there were no odors. So that indicates that they're pretty on top of keeping things clean. I didn't see any cracked or chipped paint or anything like someone had been ignoring it.

I visited this facility

Autumn Wind Senior Living was a really nice facility. I liked it a lot. The staff was very friendly and very welcoming. They were having lunch, and it smelled wonderful. What I liked about that is they had the menu posted and a picture of the chef. She showed me around the dining room and showed me that the residents can have snacks anytime between meals, and they can come in and get coffee or tea anytime as well. They were really helpful. They helped me a lot with understanding the Texas Medicaid process. The rooms were just really, really nice, and that's for the Medicaid room. It was a studio, but it was nicer than what my brother came from. Overall, I liked it better. The other one was very small in comparison, and it was an older facility.

Provider Response

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Autumn Wind Senior Living! Providing all residents and visitors with quality meals and a warm, inviting environment is paramount to our team. We appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you to our community again soon!

I visited this facility

We have found Autumn Wind Senior Living. I have put a deposit down, and they said I would be first on the list when one becomes available. My sister lives at Lake Fork, and she is about 20 minutes from there, and so she wanted to be close to us if she needed to take care of us. They have a cottage. It has a garage, a full kitchen, two bedrooms, and two baths. It's pretty nice. They have a porch and a back patio, too. We saw some amenities when we came in to go to the office. I saw several people, but it was a very quiet, peaceful place. They have activities, and they said we could be involved in them. We could also have one meal, and the staff recommended we choose lunch since it's the largest meal. We don't go all out for breakfast and dinner. The building was clean; it appeared to be good. They seemed to be fair and very open. They don't mind taking criticism, too. The staff said that the maintenance people would help us with our TVs if we needed to put them up on the wall. She also said there would be a lady cleaning every two weeks.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I toured Autumn Wind and I wasn't impressed. We had known some friends that had relatives in there that we visited before COVID. We saw both assisted and independent living facilities. The people seemed OK, but a little standoffish, but again that could be because of the COVID stuff, but the facility was nice. Other than that, I didn't see much else 'cause, again, I couldn't even tour too much. There was just a standard room. They had an activity room. It was nice, clean, and modern.

Provider Response

Thank you for providing your feedback and letting us know about this issue Terry. We set a high standard for ourselves and are truly sorry to hear that standard was not met in your interaction with us. Please get in touch with us at the facility and we'd be happy to speak with you regarding your tour at our facility.

I went to the Autumn Wind Senior Living. They take you where you need to go, they help you with medication, they provide three meals a day, and they have a barber shop and beauty salon. The apartment was small with a little kitchenette, one bedroom, a living area, and a bathroom.

My mother moved into Autumn Wind. I was impressed with the location. The atmosphere, staff, services, and food are fine. They have physical therapy, a computer room, and a beauty shop. The room I saw was fine too.

This is a very beautiful facility and there are very caring people involved with the residents. Activities are really great. Food is pretty good. Only draw back is that there no real medically trained personnel at the facility which can cause issues providing for proper medical needs.

Provider Response

We strive to provide excellent service to our residents and their families. We value your input and assure you that each of our caregivers are properly trained and certified through the Alzheimer’s Association, Care and Compliance required training for the state of Texas, and RN Delegation process for Med Aides recognized by the State of Texas. All our staff have also gone through Dementia Live Training which is an evidence-informed, high impact experience that immerses participants into life with dementia, resulting in a deeper understanding of what it’s like to live with cognitive impairment and sensory change.

I visited this facility

I visited Autumn Wind. I saw that the rooms were very neat, very clean, very well kept, and very large. It did not smell like an old folks’ home. The staff was very helpful and very nice. They were on time to show me around and gave me names of people that would help me. I liked the cleanliness and the spaciousness of the rooms.

I visited this facility

My daughter chose Autumn Wind. They have studios and one-bedroom apartments, and she has opted for a studio apartment that has a small kitchen, living area, bedroom and a bathroom, and obviously the bathroom had been set up for handicapped people. They have a dining facility, and one thing that my daughter was interested in was having lots of activities to do. She was particularly interested in exercising, and they have an exercise class once a day. She can have her car and a mobility scooter there. The staff was very nice, helpful, and answered questions. When she went back to make up her mind, they were helpful with anything that she needed.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother always said she would rather die than go into a nursing home. She used to volunteer at various nursing homes and was convinced that it was a place to wait to die. However, when she visited her sister-in-law at the Autumn Winds Assisted Living, she was very impressed with how nice it was and how friendly the staff were. Due to her health and many medications, she really needed assisted care and this place fit the bill. She has been there for 6 months now and is doing so much better with regulated medications and healthy food. She thoroughly enjoys the social activities and seems so much happier now. Thank you, Autumn Winds!

Autumn Wind Assisted Living is very beautiful. I was told about it by friends in my community about it. It is fairly new; it is about four years old. The surrounding is well kept and has really nice decorations, nice tile, and wood floorings. The people are very nice. My mother is very happy there. The staff are very caring, and they seem to enjoy their work. They have singing groups that come in. She has played a few Bingo games, and she likes when the entertainment comes in the most. They have monthly birthday parties.

I visited this facility

I visited Autumn Winds for myself. They didn't have independent living yet and I'm looking for an independent living. However, their assisted living facility was really nice. Their rooms were nice and big. They made it out really nice too. Their halls were really big and wide. When you first come in, they have a really big fireplace and it looks really homey. The staff is really nice and friendly. During my visit there, they went out of their way to show me every little detail about what they have. I would highly recommend this facility to others.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My great grandmother is a resident at this facility. She has lived there for close to a year now, and has had a very good experience in general. The food is much better than any other facility in the area, the people are more active and pleasant as well. The rooms are immaculate, the staff are all wonderful. They have media rooms, cable television in every room, separate bedroom and living room areas as well. The grounds are well kept and landscaped. The cost of living there is higher than other places, but not by much and the quality is so amazing that it's a wonder they don't charge even more. All in all, Autumn Winds is, in my opinion, one of, if not the best, assisted living facility in all of East Texas. You or your family member will not be disappointed should you choose to live here. I'm happy to have my family member in such a wonderful place.
