The level of basic care behind locked doors in the Behavioral Unit of Victoria Way is consistently minimal. Often my mother has no water cup for drinking from the bedside water pitcher. On admission, my mother went many hours until we notified staff she was without any water, water pitcher, and drinking cup. Even now, we find mother left in a chair in the same position for several hours. She has developed the beginning of a bedsore from being left up all day in same position. She entered the nursing home ambulating with a walker, taking herself to the bathroom, pulling her pants down and up. Now she has fallen recently. She has no strength to walk to the bathroom. Mom requires assistance to walk to the bathroom, and someone must change her and treat her bedsore. She cannot ambulate without assistance from an aide or family at her side with a walker. And she cannot walk down a hall without getting so tired she must immediately sit down. We have found Mom with no Depends on her and no undergarments. My mother loves to sleep in flannel nightgowns, but the staff does not regularly attend to my mother's bathroom needs, so she now wets herself during the night. and they will only put open back patient gowns on her. I could go on and on. We are looking for another place as fast as we can find one to admit mother, she has dementia and Crohn's Disease. She is 86.
