My wife is at Belen Meadows Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. It provides different care for different people at different levels. We also had been here a few years ago and then last year when she had a hospital stay. It provides convalescence for people who have been to the hospital. It looks nice, but this is the first time we had a negative feeling about it because the orderlies and the nurse practitioners were not very happy about their jobs. Two weeks ago, they took away my wife's television and said I had to bring our own TV. We were kind of disgruntled about that. The upkeep is very good. They take care of the place. The maintenance personnel keep it running smoothly and are very good at it. The food sometimes is good and sometimes it's terrible. Sometimes they give you a sandwich with just ham but no cheese. They don't serve any salt and pepper. It's very disappointing. The services are adequate but it's different from the time when we were there before and I don't know why. They offer a lot of activities for the patients. They got some arts and crafts and things of that nature. They also provide therapy if the patient needs it. They have a therapy room and equipment. It's good, but they only provide therapy in the afternoon. The staff is very good at what they do, but they don't extend it to the patients that well. The important staff like the certified nursing assistants who are the orderlies were polite but very standoffish and matter-of-fact. We didn't get involved in activities, but the patients who are involved in activities seem to be happy about it. They charge $8000 a month to be here, and to me, that's quite exorbitant. I sure can suggest that they have a more caring staff, not to look so grumpy when it comes to changing the patient. They do the job, but they seem nonchalant about things.
