When my grandmother was put into St. Francis Nursing & Rehabilitation Center I felt uneasy and guilty all at the same time. Uneasy because I do not want my grandmother's comfort and privacy left to some strangers and guilty because I never wanted this "facility" business to be an alternative. Unfortunately, I had to work at do school and could not watch for my grandmother 24/7 so she agreed to be a resident at St. Francis. St. Francis is only 15 minutes out of our home town, Oakdale, and one of my grandmother's daughter in laws basically runs the place. I began to realize she was in good hands and she was not depressed. Every trip I made there it was an event going on for the seniors and the facility consist of a very patient and caring staff who had grown so close to my grandmother they began to call her by her family name "Madear", which warmed my heart. When I walked in to facility on a weekly basis I never EVER smelled urine or defecation. I say this because you would be surprised when you enter some poorly staffed facilities and the putrid odor nearly turns you right back around. No disrespect to the seniors but, shame on the staff. My dear grandmother left this earth this year of 2012 due to Cancer and she is truly missed by family and the staff of St. Francis. I really do send a special thank you out to this facility. They are great folks to trust with elder loved ones!
