My mother-in-law lives in Kings Daughters & Sons Home. It's very clean. It's an older facility, and even though it's not modern and updated a lot, they do around-the-clock care. So for what her financial status is, they take very good care of her. Right now through COVID, they haven't had as many activities that they've had before as far as having an activity director and stuff going on. She's able to go outside and they have the porch. I like that they do all their laundry, they bring her and give her her medicine. So we feel good about that. My mother-in-law loves the food, she says it's very good. She gets three meals a day and she says the food is wonderful. Right now, the problem we're having is that they're understaffed with what's going on across the country. I don't think they offer a whole lot right now.

Mom was at Kings Daughters & Sons Home for almost a year. We had to pay out of pocket, and it was horrible. The facility, like the grounds, was well-kept. They had really nice common living areas. The dining hall was nice. The rooms were OK, but it started going downhill when they had mice in the facility, and they did not address it. They also had a roof leak, and did not repair it in a timely manner. In the hallway outside of my mother's room, and another room was involved, they actually did not move that resident to another room, but left him in there and had buckets set around in his room with water coming down. The hallway had a big trash can with water pouring in. It took them three to four months to have that repaired. They had two public restrooms that were closest to the dining hall. Both of those, the male and the females, were out of service for six months. They didn't have them repaired. The staff was horrible. One of the reasons why I removed my mother is that there was no licensed staff in that facility. There were no LPNs, no MAs, just people off the street who they trained, and they're passing medication. My mom is on narcotics and some high-powered medication, and they had people off the street passing those meds. They didn't know what the medications were. Thankfully, my mom knew what her medications looked like because they tried to give her another person's medication, and she stopped them and said, "This is not my medication." They took it back out and got the correct one. There was even one lady who worked in the kitchen as a cook, and then she transferred out to the desk to start passing meds and doing patient care. She just got on-the-job training for like a week. They do bingo three days a week and crafts once a week for an hour. Occasionally, maybe once or twice a month, they would have a church come and have a service, and they would play music and things. The food was horrible. The majority of the time, it was sandwiches, like one piece of ham and one piece of cheese on bread, and maybe a few little mandarin oranges and a couple slices of a cucumber, and that's pretty much it. They went through cooks. During the time that she was there, I think there were probably five cooks that they went through. I was there a couple of times when they brought her food in, and they're just awful. They need certified staff who are licensed, and they need more workers because they would only have one person per shift to about 38 patients. They need a better cook. I think they need a new manager or a new director because he was not interested in doing his job.

My grandmother likes Kings Daughters & Sons Assisted Living. The facility itself is nice since they have their own apartments, they get help as needed, and they supply meals and extracurricular activities. It seems clean and all the residents seem happy and seem to enjoy it. They can sit out on the front porch, they play bingo (which is her favorite), and several other things are scheduled. I had lunch with her and they do a good job with their meals. It felt homey. Her room is smaller than what she's used to, but it's perfect for what she needs.
