My aunt and uncle moved into the assisted living side of the gove county medical LTC (long term care) when they were quite elderly, but still independent. My aunt was beginning to show signs of memory loss. The staff had a program to help her keep functioning independently for as long as possible. They checked on my aunt and uncle more frequently than the bare minimum. They were able to convince her not to use the stove graciously without hurting her feelings. The facility had carpeting, which my aunt preferred, and they were able to keep the place from smelling like urine. The staff always treated my relatives with respect and never called them "cute" names like honey or sweetie.
