"I moved to The Harbors Retirement Community in Menominee. I chose this for myself because my son and daughter are up here, about 10 minutes away from where I am, so it's more convenient. There were also apartments available for me. I love it here, and the people are absolutely wonderful, including those who work here, the administration, and the residents. It's a wonderful place to be. I pay extra, but I also love the fact that I was able to bring my two dogs with me. They accept pets like cats and dogs, and I pay an extra $35 per pet. Everybody here loves my dogs, so I just love the place. The people are all terrific, so I feel very much at home here. The food here is really good. As a matter of fact, we are having turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, and the whole nine yards today. I have no complaints. If they fix something that you don't really care for, or you are not certain, they have another menu that you can order from. I am in their independent living, but if anyone needs it, they have assisted care, or what they call the JemCare, so if anybody needs that extra care, they are available. I have a doctor's appointment coming up, and they are going to take me there. They have someone who will do your laundry and cleaning, too. I am able to do those things myself, so I do them, but if I need help, it's right here. They'll knock on your door on your floor's cleaning and laundry day, and if you have anything for them to do, they'll be happy to do it for you. We play bingo three days a week. They have church services for Catholics and Protestants. We have a happy hour once a week. If you want to have a beer or a mixed drink or a glass of wine, you can do that. We have entertainment. If you are able, they also go out to breakfast once in a while, or they go out to the zoo. We also go out to see art displays. They have all kinds of things going on here. We enjoy them, and they're a lot of fun. They have two hairstylists for haircuts, permanent hair color, and whatever you want to have done. They have pedicures and manicures, too, but of course, you pay for them separately. I can't say anything but nice things about this place. Some of the residents forget where their rooms are, and if they're on the same floor I'm on, I'm able to serve them, but on their canes and walkers are their first names and room numbers in the event that they get lost. We also have monitors that residents wear around their necks. If you need help with something, you just press the little button and they're right there. I hit mine accidentally, and they came knocking on my door and checked on me. They're efficient and they're all about the residents. For me, it's well worth it. I pay $3400, but I have a big apartment with carpeting. I have a kitchenette and plenty of room for my table, a bedroom, and a living room. The only thing is that we don't have stoves because we have all of our meals here. It's all included. We have microwaves, though, and I have an air fryer, toaster, and a coffeemaker in my room. For some of the residents, stoves wouldn't be safe, but you can have an electric skillet or anything like that if you want to fix something. Once in a while, I do that with my microwave and air fryer, but for the most part, I go downstairs because I love being with the people. I have plenty of room, and it's just super nice. There are four levels here, and there's a library along with more apartments on the fourth floor. The elevators are right there, but if you need assistance, there's always someone who can take you. Some of the residents are in wheelchairs, so the staff take them down to their meals. We also have the grounds and some of the places outside where you can sit and enjoy the fresh air."
