Independent Living Communities in Paso Robles, CA

"I toured The Oaks at Paso Robles. It's a beautiful place. It's very well put together. It seems like you're at a resort. I felt like I was at a resort. The only problem is it's built on a hillside, so there's no there's no outside grounds. It's just dirt. There's no landscaping. So, if you were a person that liked to go outside, this isn't the place. But if you're having memory care probably it would be fine. It's new, so it's very nice. I like the rooms very much. While I was visiting them, I never saw any caregivers. I just thought that was so weird. I didn't see anybody rushing to a room or, it was like you were in an empty hotel. And just in a few of the public areas were some of the people, like they might be eating a snack or playing some cards or something. The staff was very nice, I met the chef, and everybody seemed to be very nice and outgoing."

"I was at Avila Senior Living at Downtown SLO for a few days. Everything was nice, but I wasn't there long enough to give the activities a try. The staff was wonderful. I had a friend that was there as well. Everybody was very congenial and very helpful. It's wonderful, clean and well kept."

"Las Brisas was clean. The dining room was very nice; we ate there. The portions were small compared to what my husband and I normally eat, and he said that he would starve to death, but I told him that I didn’t think so. They had the nicest apartments we've seen. We looked at a one-bedroom apartment that was very large and spacious, and I believe the two of us could live in it very comfortably. I prefer a two-bedroom, though it was a small apartment but very nice. I was concerned that the kitchen didn’t have an oven, and they showed us a room that was like a community kitchen you can use if you'd like to bake something. It had everything a person needed to cook a complete meal; plus, if your family was visiting and you wanted to do the cooking yourself, you could cook there. That impressed me because I need to bake my husband some cookies once in a while. The only thing that I didn’t like was the independent living. You can hire people to come in and assist you, so that was nice, but my husband is starting to get Alzheimer’s. If it came down to him having to go into memory care, the facility is six blocks away, but they said they would take me over there if I wanted to visit. They will take you to doctors, church on Sunday, and events going on at the college or theater. They said they had a pool table and things like that, puzzles, sing-alongs, and exercises. "

"You own your home here at Quail Run Estates and this is where I've been since 2012. It's a beautiful place. They keep it up very nicely. The people that run it are very nice, too. They have swimming and pickleball. Every time there's a holiday, they have some kind of a big thing. For the Super Bowl, everybody brought something and they watched the Super Bowl at the clubhouse. Yesterday was garbage day. I called and said, "The garbage man came by and put down the garbage can and it fell over and I can't go down there." I explained the situation and they took care of it. It's all done. They make sure that everybody follows the rules. There are no cars on the street (once in a while, somebody visits you for a short time, though). No working on your car anywhere unless it's in a closed-in area like your garage. It's clean. The roads are kept up. Some trees are beautiful in this area. It's just very nice and we're very happy. There are no steps or stairs. There are beautiful patios."

"I have a Auntie that is moving into this senior apartment complex. We met with the manager and toured the property. I feel my family member will be in a safe little community. Yes they are smaller but this is ALL the room she needs. With each room being very spacious for her.... A living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom and Nice size bathroom! Huge closet! New carpet was just installed and freshly painted. A Recreation room not far from her room with activities thru out the week and a work out area and also a van to take her the places she needs to go also. Quite cozy for her as she agreed coming from a large home that she shared with her husband before his passing. I know she’ll be happy here. Oh also I might add that her bank is walking distance and the local Hospital is right across the street literally. And the manager here I have to say is the best very Gracious person. Thank You!! "

"My dad felt that Atascadero Christian Community was a little too rural for him. It's a very nice facility, but a little too country for him. The rooms were nice and clean but a bit older-looking. I talked with one lady there who had her place fixed up cute, and she even had a little patio area that she could go and sit out on. Because it was a little more country out in that area, she was able to see wildlife go by and she seemed like a very happy, upbeat, friendly person and dressed quite nicely, too. The place was just a little bit more old-fashioned. People were very friendly, and I've heard very good things from other families who have loved ones there. It seemed nice. People were very wonderful and caring about the people who lived there. It's just very easy-going, country style. They had group activities. "
