Questions about The Cottages at Woodland Terrace
Describe the overall population of independent living residents at The Cottages at Woodland Terrace. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?
Our current population has an age range of early 60s through early 90s, with the average age being late 70s. We have a pretty active community calendar with monthly covered dishes, wine socials, birthday parties, and painting group. Weekly, cards and games are the primary activity. We have avid Hand ‘n Foot players, Canasta, Bingo, and even a poker group (just for the men) one night a week. We also have Bible Study every Wednesday morning, and the Lunch Bunch that goes somewhere fun for lunch once a month. We have other board games, a bean-bag toss and a Ladder Game that we have tournaments with.
What places are nearby for independent living residents to enjoy?
We are a college town with two colleges and one university, so there is always something going on! We have plays, concerts, and lots of restaurants. There is a country club with a golf course, tennis, a pool and fine dining. The Oconee River Greenway Park is a five minute drive from the community. It has walkways along the Oconee River and through woods. There's more than 33,000 acres of water between Lake Sinclair and Lake Oconee. If you like to boat or fish, there is plenty of opportunity! We are the historic first capital city of the South, and are the only city in the country, other than Washington D.C., that was actually designed to be a capital city. So, we have lots of museums and historic sites. Allied Arts provides art education for all ages with classes ranging from performing arts to painting.. We have yoga studios, gyms, and GSCU has a Wellness and Recreation Center that offers a senior “aquafit” class in their indoor pool.
What are some recent off-site events that the community activity director at The Cottages at Woodland Terrace has organized?
Our Lunch Bunch has gone to the Whistle Stop Café in Juliette, Ga., and had fried green tomatoes! They have had lunch in a small place called Haddock at Trish Ann’s, which is an antique store and restaurant. There are several banks that have travel clubs folks can join for cruises and bigger trips, and a group called Learning in Retirement, that is connected to GCSU also does a lot of group traveling, mostly around the state
What transportation services does The Cottages at Woodland Terrace offer to independent living residents?
What makes the chef or dining program at The Cottages at Woodland Terrace exceptional? What kind of menu can independent living residents expect?
Our community is one of individual patio homes, not a large facility under one roof. Therefore, we do not offer communal dining. However, the community office will, when asked, go and pick up lunch for our residents at a local Southern cooking-type buffet. They just order their food, put it on their credit card, tell us they have ordered and we go pick it up and deliver it to their door about 11:30. Once our assisted living facility is complete in the Summer of 2019 we will be able to have food delivered from our own kitchen to the independent residents for a nominal fee, or they may be able to go to the dining room.
What common areas are available for independent living residents?
Currently, we have a two-bedroom patio home we use for a meeting place and hold all of our activities there.
What safety features or security measures does The Cottages at Woodland Terrace offer to independent living residents?
We are a gated community, with the gates closing at 5pm and opening at 7am each day. Each patio home has a security system in it. Our residents can use that system to check in in the mornings. If they are supposed to check in and they don’t, we will call them and, if they don’t respond to the phone, we will go and physically check on them.
If The Cottages at Woodland Terrace accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?
We accept pets 25 pounds and less. Dogs must be walked on a leash and picked up after. There are several areas that are opened and landscaped where the dogs can be taken to relieve themselves.
Does The Cottages at Woodland Terrace work with an agency or registry to provide nursing and medical assistance as needed?
There are several agencies that provide in-home care, from a few hours a day to 24/7 care. The resident would have to make their own arrangements for these services.
