"Our Dad had a stroke in early May 2023 and at 94 lost his ability to walk and take care of himself. We live in Encinitas, so wanted him to be close to us. After going to look at several Assisted Living/Independent Living Facilities we were quite surprised to find that Westmont Of Encinitas was far superior than all the others and actually was quite less in cost. The facility is just slightly over two years old and the staff is friendly, food is great and the activities are plentiful. Just in a short 2 months he is walking on his own, living in his great bright 1 bedroom apartment and going to Bridge 3 times a week, going to Ice Cream socials, and exercising and building his strength up with their great Physical Therapists. We brought him down from Costa Mesa to Westmont of Encinitas on May 25, 2023 and he is thriving in such a short time. I would highly recommend Westmont of Encinitas for any loved one. Our father is happy and social and healthy now. This facility is a 5 Stars for sure."

"My dad moved to Summerfield of Encinitas. This place is specifically for memory care. There are 56 beds, so it's fairly small. They are organized into four neighborhoods that are the same. They mix up the level of memory issue that the people are in. So, there's variety. There are some nonverbal people in my dad's neighborhood and some people who are in wheelchairs. The lucky thing is that there are several men in the facility right now, which is not common, as most of the time, you find it primarily women. He's already found a friend, and he talks about his friend. The staff has a new director, and he has been very, very visible during our transition, checking on us. You see him out and about. He's not just sitting in his office. The entire staff is friendly and responsive. The other thing that I like, as far as the facility is concerned, is that the rooms are studio-type. They have a sink and a toilet in the rooms. There are two shower rooms in each of the neighborhoods, and they are specifically designed for use with someone who needs lots of assistance. So, there's not a danger in dad's room of him getting in the shower on a whim. I thought from a safety perspective that it was a good idea. Activities are pretty much what you would see in any memory care, but each of the neighborhoods has a courtyard, and the courtyards are open all the time. We're in San Diego, so it is usually very nice outside. Dad can go out and walk or sit or whatever. He can wander through the other neighborhoods, too. It's all kind of in a big circle. It's very easy to navigate, and there's lots of outdoor space. There have been a couple of times, though, where it's been taking a little time to get a response from someone, but they are working on that. Their food is fresh and there's a variety. The building is top-notch."

"My brother moved to Senior Comfort Care. He got a hospital bed, a TV, a couple of dressers, and a closet. The staff was fairly young. They always take care of his things. I tried their food and it's okay. They could have done a better job other than interacting with the care staff and other people. They don't have things organized. They could do more on the field trips but they're pretty much housebound."

"I really liked Sunrise at La Costa because it was newer and smaller. The staff was very helpful and very nice, and they had a very good variety of activities. Everything was very clean. The room was a little smaller as well. The food on the menu looked very good. It's a very well-maintained facility."

"Hillside Garden II was very clean, professional, and very safe. The staff was attentive, kind, patient, and very understanding of the situation. They were not pushy. It was a residential board and care home with four bedrooms that were remodeled to accommodate wheelchairs and hospital beds. It just wasn't exactly what we needed at this time."

"We looked at Silvergate San Marcos. I’m looking for a smaller place for my mother, and Silvergate was perfect. We had a room and everything, so I brought her down, but she said, “That’s nice but I’m not moving.“ The staff was very nice. I think the marketing manager showed us around; it was very nice. The rooms are very nice. The living room area has a shower and a toilet, and a bedroom has a shower and a toilet. We like the one that has a little patio and my mom likes that because she wants to sit outside. It was very nice, and it was what we were looking for. They have bridge, they have discussion groups, and they are doing exercise with a group. I like the community because it is small, it is very clean, and everybody knows each other. "

"I chose La Marea Senior Living for my wife because it's a beautiful facility. The people there are very caring, loving, and I just fell in love with the people and the place. She's been very well taken care of, and they're very respectful, which I like. I've had a couple of lunches there and they were very good. They have activities like music which is one of the things they do pretty well. It's a beautiful place that's well-cared for. They also have a movie theater, a cafe, and they have a bar for the assisted living people. It's rather expensive."

"We chose Ocean Hills Senior Living for mom because it felt warm and I felt like my mom would like it. There are a lot of active people there, and it's just very inviting. They have exercise classes, word search, bingo, Rummikub, cards, and puzzles. A lady comes in twice a week and sings for them in the dining area. They have activities where they go around San Diego County."

"It was very clean. It was a hotel before, so they were still remodeling it, and it looked like they were doing a great job. They gave me a fairly quick tour and explained kind of their philosophy, which I liked because they said that they don't restrict their residents from any habits that they had before, which I think was very nice. One weird thing was that they were giving them popcorn for snacks, which I thought was funny because old people can't eat popcorn. But the staff was very pleasant and accommodating."

"My mother is here, and everything is great so far. Everything is OK, the people are good, and the place is clean. She's doing physical therapy. Her room doesn't have a kitchenette, but it's clean. They have basic amenities. The living atmosphere is fine, as long as the care is good. The place looks bright."
