Luverne is the county seat of Rock County in the far southwestern corner of Minnesota. It has about 4,700 residents, over 1,000 of whom are age 65 and over. The city's crime rate is notably below the national average, particularly when it comes to violent crime, which may draw seniors who are looking for a peaceful community to spend their retirement years. Â
Luverne seniors have two assisted living facilities to choose from within the city proper. Like all assisted living facilities in the state, the facilities are officially called housing with services establishments, as assisted living is not recognized as its own classification. While these facilities don't have to obtain licensing, they are required to register annually with the Department of Health.Â
