Heritage Place

The rooms at Heritage Place are really big. It's nice, has open spaces and private rooms. They also have different places where people can go and watch television and not just stay in their rooms. They have a recreation area, movie nights, and a separate eating area. They have physical and occupational therapy, and they also have physicians that come in regularly. It actually improved compare to what it was a few years ago. Although sometimes you go in there and it just smells like an old folks home and that turns me off right away.

The staff is comprised of people from the community that often times are closely linked to the residents in the home. My mother's family homesteaded in the area, and she was surrounded by lifelong friends who were fellow residents, and who were caregivers themselves. The community looks out for each other, and it was beautifully manifest when I would go to see my mom. If I wasn't waiting to go see her because people were already visiting her, I would have to wait my turn to talk to her while caregivers were visiting with her and catching up with other life long friends. There were church services, plays, and other activities for residents to participate in. I may go back myself even though my mother is long since released, so that I can get some intelligent cribbage competition! People in my generation are to easy to beat.
