"We toured Homestead Senior Living. They do not take Medicare. However, they were very friendly and helpful, and they showed us the whole place. The rooms were very similar in style and size to the other place we visited. They have studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms. We saw the gathering rooms and the dining room. We just saw the common areas where people gather."

"Tammy, who gave us the tour at Samuel F. Vilas Home, was outstanding. I met some of the senior people who work there. Tammy took us to some of the rooms, which were good. She took us to the restaurant, where I observed that the folks eating all seemed happy. It seemed like a good group of people, but I noticed the three people at the door to greet us with Tammy probably could use a little bit more training. They didn't seem to be that happy to see us. It was more of an effort, you could tell. There was no eye contact or anything with one girl. The other two were just fair. The dining area was fine. I didn't see anything wrong with it. It looked clean. They had a nice menu posted, which, if you didn't like, you could go to the alternative menu. Everything was well lit. The rooms were a good size with good furniture. The people have their little pictures and their names up, which is good. The hallways were well lit and quite wide, which is good. Everything inside the building was positive, except for the three people who were at the doorway. The outside was terrible. I know they had construction going, but even after the construction, with as much pavement as there is, I didn't see any room for flowers, nice lawns, birds, and nice shrubs. It just didn't look appealing. Overlooking Court Street wasn't bad looking out the south window, but you didn't have any courtyard like colleges have, for instance. So, if the people wanted to wander around in a nice grassy lawn with picnic tables and flowers and watch the birds and the squirrels and chipmunks, there wouldn't be any of that. It was rather expensive. That's another negative. The inside, I would give it a 5 plus, the outside, I would give it a 1."

"My mother has been in Saint Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for two weeks now. They do not offer any private rooms -- which was what she had before -- so it is an adjustment for her to have a shared room. The nurses seem very attentive. The rooms are always clean, which is nice. My mother is having issues with eating, so the food has to be pureed for her. She is in the final stages of Alzheimer's. Since she is only 10 miles from me, this is the most convenient for all of us right now. "

"Holiday House Residential Care Home is a wonderful and caring community. They took wonderful care of my grandmother. I found it to always be clean and the staff to be excellent. It is also locally owned and operated. They are associated with have Franklin County Rehab Center which is also a great place. My family visited Franklin County Rehab for a short term rehabilitation stay as well and loved the care there too. However, she wanted to come back to her home Holiday House. Holiday House has recently done a lot of renovations to the building including Resident Rooms, Common Areas and bathrooms, and office areas. It is really beautiful and a great place to have your loved one cared for. "

"My mother was placed in this nursing facility because it was too hard for us to give her the proper care. It was the most difficult decesion we have ever had to make. It breaks our hearts that we could'nt care for her anymore. We visit daily and all the nurses and aids care for her like she was their family member. "

"While my Mom was on an extended visit with me, I enrolled her at Third Age while I went to work. The staff kept her engaged and offered a variety of activities for her. While they offer pick up and drop off, I choose not to use that service, but I feel that it is an excellent option. The cost was reasonable and included snacks and lunch. I highly recommend Third Age. "

"I used to take my brother there in the morning before I went to work for three long years. They were wonderful and kind to my brother. When he passed away, I got a wonderful card. Everybody that went to the day care signed the card and wrote a note for me and they said they would miss him and they enjoyed having him there. The facility is clean and they have crafts. They met him at the door with a cup of coffee in the morning because he loved his coffee. Everything I could have wanted for him during the day and I just wish that he had been at day care instead of that home. "

"My mom was at Clinton County for many, many years before she passed away. She needed help with her daily activities, hygiene, and she just wasn't able to do any of that at home. After her stroke, her attitude was very poor and it was impossible to reason with her so I thought she would do better in a nursing home. They tried and went out of their way to accommodate her. She was in a double room but they tried to make it as homey as possible but she would argue with the other resident. They actually had a construction people come in and put a wall for her and she had more privacy. They went above and beyond to try to make her comfortable. They had physical therapy there which the doctor asked her to have. She enjoyed the activities like bingo, arts and crafts. Because she loves cooking so much, they tried to have her do some cooking chores with them. They really try to accommodate her very much. "

"Pine Harbor seems to be a very pleasant place to live. There are plenty of social activities for the residents, which I believe is very important for the emotional well-being of the residents. There is also a lot of community involvement. My daughter's Girl Scout troop has been invited to the nursing home on various occasions for Christmas Caroling, craft making etc. Local school students have been to the facility to spend time with the residents. The place has been very clean each time I have been, and also has a cheery decor. Also, the staff have been very pleasant, and seem to really care about the residents. Another plus is that the facility is very close to Lake Champlain, so the residents can go outside and have a nice view. The people staying at Pine Harbor seem to enjoy being there. Due to the amount of community involvement and social activities, the residents are able to still feel like they are part of the outside world, this leads to less depression and feelings of isolation. It's great that the facility is open for all kinds of visitation opportunities. Another great thing about Pine Harbor is it doesn't have that "hospital" feel that some of the other facilities of this type have. It has more of a home-like environment. I would trust Pine Harbor with one of my friends or relatives if the need ever arose. "

"The experience overall was very pleasent. The employees were very attentive and well mannered. Any needs that came about were met quickly and efficiently without problems. The quality of life seems to be high as well. All the residents i interacted with all spoke highly of their experiences there and were more than willing to recommend it to others with possible needs in everyday living assistance. "
