The Best Senior Living Communities in Mickleton, NJ

"My wife and I will be moving into Chestnut Ridge. It's beautiful, and it's less rent for more stuff. They have all kinds of programs there. The facility is in tree-lined suburban Chester, it's very quiet, with no loud music, no race, and nothing down the street. It's not far from the mall and within reach of financial institutions and food supermarkets, and they have a bakery. All week long, every day they have a program for senior citizens. They give you a copy of what will be going on every day, seven days a week. They have activities, a bistro, and parking for anyone that has a vehicle. They have art classes, and drawing and coloring contests. They have programs for people that don't have cars where they can get paratransit to take them shopping, and to doctors. They have brain enhancement to help your memory. It's just totally beautiful, and I see why it's a hidden gem in Chester. We will have an apartment; the design and floor plans are beautiful."

"I cannot say enough great things about the staff at Cardinal Village. My Mom has been a resident in the Assisted Living section for over 3 years. They have gone out of their way, time after time, to help her with so many things. The Nurses, in particular, are FANTASTIC. They communicate with our family, they support my Moms wellbeing both physically and mentally. My Mom can be very difficult and the staff is very attentive. Mom was living at another facility nearby until we could get her in at Cardinal Village. What a difference it's made in our lives. Mom is safe and content here, and so are we. "

"Viva Senior Living at Cross Keys is nice and clean. The people who work there are jovial with the patients. They have a lot of patience, and they treat them very nicely. Right now, my wife is in a semi-private apartment, waiting to be put into a private apartment. The room she is in now, they share the bathroom, and there are two beds. They have a program list that varies from day to day, whether it's listening to music, dancing, or playing bingo. They have quizzes for them, and they have movies they can watch. They have a courtyard, but they really can't walk in it now because of the snow. They have a salon where you can get your hair cut. They have a couple of dayrooms and auditoriums where they eat lunch, dinner, and breakfast. My wife likes their food. It's worth the money."

"We chose The Landing of Washington Square for my mother because it's in her neighborhood, and it offered all of the services that she needed. It's a brand-new place. It's not completely staffed yet, but I've dealt with the front desk people and the two managers. There are nurses on duty every day. I dealt with every one of them and they're awesome. All of them are great. My mother has an apartment. She has a full-sized bathroom, a full-sized bedroom, a kitchen-family room sort of combination, and both are nice sized. It's a full kitchen except for a stove. I haven't had the food in a while, but my mother says she loves it. She said it's great. The Landing of Washington Square is very expensive, but all the services are there."

"Springfield Crossings was OK. It was a way to walk from the parking lot to the building. The rooms to me were kind of small and it was under construction, so I didn't understand that one, but the person that gave the tour was pretty nice. He's a very knowledgeable young guy. Next door to the facility was a nursing home that was available for the residents. If something were to happen to your loved one, they can be taken there, which I thought was pretty good since it was convenient. The dining area was nice and clean as well. Then they have a private room if you have family members that stopped by."

"We went to Atria Center City, and my daughter liked it very much. It's extremely modern, it had been redone just a few years ago. They gave us a cake that was very good. It was so close to where I live, but it was too expensive, it was at least $2,000 more than the other two places we went to. I wasn't really fond of the administrator, it's like he was really slick and wearing an MBA badge or something. The building was very beautiful, everything was clean, and it was very ultra modern."

"My friend was a resident of Fountain View at Logan Square. They do get you up and around and they don't want the patients to be laying in the bed all the time, and I thought that was very good. The problem is, it's a very good facility, but it's out of a lot of people's reach. I did look at their apartments and it was attached to the rehab center, which I felt was great, but it was pretty expensive. I'm sure there are ways of working it out. I did speak to the person who was in charge of social work there, and she was pretty helpful. It was very nice. They have group sessions, which I felt were very good because she was able to socialize. It was a nice facility. It was just very expensive. I thought this one was one of the nicer ones, mainly because it was also an apartment. They kept it up very nicely. The apartments were very nice, everything seemed to be running very well, and the patient care was very good. Their staff was very good."

"Brittany Manor didn't provide respite care services. Going in there, it was more for people who are mentally challenged. Before I went in, there was a resident already asking me for money while I was sitting in my car, and then when I went in, there was another resident who was asking me for money, and food, and whatever I had in my hand. The person who walked me around was a five. My experience trying to confirm that I had a tour was a one or a zero. I called to confirm, and no one seemed to be able to confirm with me that they were aware that I was coming. They said they would get back to me, and no one ever got back to me, so I just wound up showing up, and the person who gave me the tour was very friendly. However, she wasn't necessarily prepared to provide a tour. The place was very disheveled. Whoever owned the place before, that signage was still up there. The facility smelled as soon as I got in the door. The staff pretty much mentioned this is for people who have mental disabilities. The room I saw wasn't dirty. It's just that everything looked old. Everything didn't look like it was maintained properly. That's not a place I would recommend for anybody. It didn't seem like the patients were even well taken care of. The people that I talked to on the phone were not professional in my book, and telling me that you're going to get back to me, and then you still don't get back, that was very concerning."

"I had an in-person tour of True Wood by Merrill, Glen Riddle. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were adequate according to whatever your needs were, like size and space. You would have to bring your own appliances. The staff was very knowledgeable, caring, and kind."

"We chose Rose Tree Place as she lives near the area. The staff seemed to be very nice and so far everything is going along very well. The dining room is very nice, they have tablecloths, it’s like a restaurant, and the rooms were spacious. There are lot of activities like they had outings, bingo night, cards, music, offerings, and trips to the grocery store. The food is adequate, but the food can always be improved on. "

"I thought Brookdale Echelon Lake had cheaper rent, but they had a one year waiting list. It's a little dated, and for the price of the room, I think it was small. They overlooked the lake, and it would be nice in the summer so that you could sit on the porch. It was right behind a major mall, but not close to any doctors, and I don't know if for any appointments they'll take you to your doctor. They had a library with a computer, which is good to stimulate people with a public computer to use. The rooms were a bit smaller than what my dad has now, and the rent was cheaper, but then for everything else, they charge more for their level of care. The rent was cheap, but if the level of care was higher, it would come out higher. "

"My brother will move into Juniper Village at Williamstown. It's a small community, but he has what he needs and is very clean. I've gone a few times there, and the residents enjoy it. They had a beautiful dining room and a nice showroom that they cleaned daily. They offer a get-to-know-your-patient kind of environment. I didn't see any residents in the hallways leaning against the wall like I had seen in the other places. They're very friendly, and every time I called, they answered me right away. I've been there two times, but they knew me by first name, which is comforting."

"Ivy Gables Senior Living did not have an availability in memory care. They kind of had a hybrid program in between assisted living and memory care, but they felt my dad needed a little more care than what they provided in that hybrid situation. However, if we were able to put him there, it would have been wonderful. They were professional, friendly, and informative. The facility was roomy. There's lots of areas for the residents to be able to go and move around. The room was sufficiently sized and clean. They had structured activities. It was perfect."

"My mom has moved into Merion Gardens. It is a very nice and clean place. The staff seems to be fairly efficient and they're pleasant. My mom's room is being kept clean, and she is getting good care. I'm happy with it, and as mad as she was about having to go there, she likes it now. The activities are sufficient for her because she doesn't remember too much. It is a nice place if that's what you have to be in. She has only been there for a few weeks, but I'm pretty happy with it. Food is pretty good, too."
